SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 3/15/26 at approximately 17:33 hours, Vermont State Police responded to a reported single vehicle crash with entrapment and injuries on Old Sawmill Road near the intersection with Vail Road in the Town of Orwell, Vermont.  Upon Troopers’ arrival on scene, both occupants were still inside and entrapped inside the vehicle as Vehicle 1 was pressed up against several trees.  Members of the Orwell Fire Department were able to extricate the passengers of the vehicle, who was later identified as Michael Guess of Brandon.  Guess subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.

Members of the Orwell Fire Department along with members of the Orwell First Response were able to extricate the operator of the vehicle (Therrien), who was subsequently life flighted to UVM Medical Center to receive treatment for his life-threatening injuries.

This investigation is still ongoing and in the beginning stages, however, alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors to this crash.
