SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On the above date and time, the Vermont State Police responded to Richardson Rd at the intersection of Emery Rd in Orange for a reported two vehicle crash. Investigation determined Kyle Hunt, (23) of Washington, VT, was driving west bound on Richardson Rd in a Subaru Crosstrek when he turned south in front of a Kawasaki KLX140 dirt bike driving east on Richardson Rd operated by Kaylee Bailey, (16) of Corinth, VT.  There was a head on collision and both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage.

 

Hunt was not injured in the crash. Bailey was found unresponsive and despite lifesaving efforts she was pronounced deceased on the scene.

 

On February 14, 2026, Kyle Hunt (23) was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Orange County Criminal Division on February 25, 2026, at 08:30 AM. The citation relates to charges of Gross Negligent Operation – Death Resulting and Obstruction of Justice.

***Update, 2:50 p.m. Friday, February 2026***

Through investigation, the two males involved in the attempted burglary that took place on the morning of 02/08/2026 at the Willoughby Lake Store have been identified. Troopers out of the St. Johnsbury barracks initiated a traffic stop on the evening of 02/08/2026 on a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the attempted burglary. Troopers located evidence linking them to the attempted burglary at the Willoughby Lake Store. The two males were identified as Joshua Waterman and Marcel Cotnoir. Both males were arrested and lodged at Northeast Correctional Facility on a separate incident. Both males were later criminally cited into the Orleans County Criminal Court on 02/17/2026 at 12:30 pm for the above listed offenses.

***Initial news release, 2:16 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026***

On the above date and time, the Vermont State Police received report of a possible burglary at the Willoughby Lake Store located at 2003 VT Route 5A in the Town of Westmore. Troopers responded to the store and met with the owner who provided surveillance footage of the incident.

In reviewing the surveillance footage, at approximately 4:30 am, what appears to be a blue in color Subaru Outback pulled into the shoulder of the roadway near the store and two males exited. The two males are then seen attempting to break into the store by utilizing a crowbar and smashing the front door window, however their attempts were unsuccessful. At approximately 4:32 am, both males are then seen returning to the vehicle and leaving the scene.

One male is observed to be wearing loosely fit blue jeans, tan Timberland like boots, a face cover, and a dark colored hoodie. The other male was seen wearing black pants, a red and black jacket, a face cover, and brown work boots. Attached are two still shots of the two males captured in the surveillance.

Investigation revealed Reil to have caused serious bodily injury to a family member. Reil was shortly after located and taken into custody without incident. Reil was transported to the Vermont State Police – Derby Barracks for processing. Reil was later ordered to be held at the Northern State Correction Facility without bail and will be arraigned in the Orleans County Criminal Court on 02/17/2026 at 12:30pm.

On 02/14/2026 at 0127 hours, the Vermont Fish and Game Wardens located a single motor vehicle crash on VT Route 16 near the intersection of Cook Rd in Barton, VT.  Vermont State Police also responded and identified the operator as Andrew Fletcher.  Fletcher displayed multiple indicators of impairment and after subsequent investigation was placed under arrest for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence.  Fletcher was transported to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks for processing and released on a citation.

A vehicle was observed traveling 68mph in a posted 50mph zone, constituting a violation of Title 23 V.S.A. 1081(b), Basic Rule and Maximum Limits.

 

A traffic stop was initiated, and the operator was identified as Aaron Preston, 36, of Johnson. While speaking with Preston, Troopers identified several indicators of impairment. He was screened and subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI.

 

Preston was transported to the Morristown Police Department for processing. He was then released with a citation to appear in the Lamoille County Superior Court on March 4th, 2026, at 1230 hours, to answer to the charge of DUI #2.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On 02/13/2026, at approximately 1601 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to a report of a pickup truck off the roadway on North Concord Road in the Town of Concord, VT.
Upon arrival, Troopers located a white Ford F-150 off the roadway, stuck in a snowbank. The operator was identified as Francisco Lopez (52) of Lancaster, NH. While speaking with Lopez, Troopers observed indicators of impairment.
Following further investigation, Lopez was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. Lopez was transported to the Vermont State Police – St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing and was later issued a citation to appear in Essex County Superior Court at a later date.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On 02/08/2026 at approximately 1900 hours, Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to a report of single-vehicle rollover located on US 302 by Church Street in the Town of Ryegate. Troopers identified the operator of the vehicle as Mathew Costa (38) of Peacham, VT. While speaking with Costa, Troopers detected indicators of impairment. Costa was transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital.

 

Costa was released from the hospital and subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing. He was issued a citation and released. He is ordered to appear in Caledonia County Superior court on 02/23/2026 at 0830 hours.

Troopers responded and learned that a masked male forcefully entered through a window around 0235 hours, earlier that morning. Before leaving, the male stole over $3,000 worth of cigarettes and vapes. After subsequent investigation, the offender was identified as Russell Smith, 45, of Richford, VT. Smith was located in the morning hours of 02/13/2026 and taken into custody and transported to the Derby Barracks for processing. Smith was later lodged at Northern State Correctional facility on 50,000.00 dollars bail.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On 02/13/2026, at approximately 1519 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Westminster Barracks responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 91 Northbound in the area of Mile Marker 56.4, in the town of Windsor (Windsor County), Vermont. The vehicle was operated by Daniel Goldenberg, 52, of Stamford, Connecticut and there were four additional occupants. Investigation revealed that the vehicle struck a guardrail and the operator lost control of the vehicle, the vehicle spun out and eventually overturned. There were no injuries sustained in the crash. The roadway was reduced to one lane while emergency personnel cleared the scene. Twinline Towing removed the vehicle from the roadway. The scene was handled jointly by Windsor Fire and Rescue.
