On the above date and time, Vermont State Police observed a Blue Subaru Legacy traveling north on US Route 7 near mile marker 17 at a speed well in excess of the posted 55 miles per hour. Radar confirmed the speed at 94 miles per hour.

 

A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and the operator, Charles Nyman of New York, was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on 06/24/2024 at 0815 hours for the charge of Excessive Speed. Nyman was also issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for speeding with a waiver amount of $586.

On the above date and time, the Vermont State Police received a call about pigs blocking the roadway on Maple St, in the Town of Orleans.  The Vermont State Police then received multiple calls about two males fighting in the roadway on Maple St.  Troopers responded and identified the males as Ty Morrison (37) of Orleans, VT, and Michael Cyr (57) of Brownington, VT.  It was determined Morrison and Cyr were arguing over the pigs that were in the roadway that neither party owned or managed.  Investigations revealed Morrison and Cyr engaged in violent, and tumultuous behavior toward each other in a public place.  Morrison and Cyr were both issued a citation to appear in Orleans County Superior Court for the above offense.

***Initial news release, 0157 a.m. Thursday, June 1st, 2023***

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 05/28/2023, at approximately 0100 hours, the Vermont State Police were advised of a break-in at 1688 VT RT 105 in the Town of Newport Center, VT. The building that sits at that location is a closed restaurant. A short time after, State Police were alerted to a truck and cattle trailer engulfed in flames on River Road in the Town of North Troy. Subsequent investigation later revealed a 2011 Ford F-550 which was connected to a gooseneck cattle trailer and was stolen from Chaput’s Family Farm in the very late hours of 05/27/2023. The truck and trailer were then driven to the closed restaurant located at 1688 VT RT 105 in the Town of Newport Center where a person(s) forcefully entered and stole an ATM which was within. The truck and trailer shortly after was driven to River Road in Troy where the truck and the ATM within the cattle trailer were set on fire.

 

North Troy Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On the above date and time, Vermont State Police were dispatched to a two car crash on US Route 7 near Stewarts in the Town of Pownal. Investigation revealed that vehicle #1 was pulling onto US Route 7 from the Stewarts parking lot when it entered the path of vehicle #2 resulting in a collision.

 

Both vehicles were totaled as a result and the operators were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for suspected minor injuries. Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by the Pownal Rescue Squad, Pownal Fire Department, Williamstown MA Police, and Walt's Towing.

On October 23rd, 2023, at approximately 2303 hours members of the Vermont State Police received a 911 advising that someone had been shot at a residence on Twitchell Hill Road in Shaftsbury, VT.  Investigation revealed that Mohamed Hamdi, age 32, of Union, NJ, and Matthew Osei, age 29, of Colonia, NJ, entered a residence on Twitchell Hill Road and forced the occupants into the basement.  While in the basement, Nicholas Baker and Joseph Maccioli were assaulted and Joseph was shot by Matthew while attempting to flee.  On April 26th, 2024, Matthew turned himself into the VSP – Shaftsbury Barracks.  Matthew was processed and transported to the Vermont Superior Court – Bennington Criminal Court for arraignment.  At the completion of his arraignment, Matthew was ordered to be held without bail.   

 

The Vermont State Police were assisted by the Bennington County Sheriff’s Department, the Bennington Police Department, the US Marshals Service, the New Jersey State Police, the New York State Police, the Paramus Police Department, and the Mahwah Police Department during the investigation.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

The Vermont State Police is investigating a shooting incident that had occurred at a residence on Twitchell Hill Road in the Town of Shaftsbury. 

 

At approximately 2303 hours members of the Vermont State Police received a 911 call which stated that someone had been shot at the above residence.  Upon arrival Troopers were able to identify a lone male victim who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.  The second victim had also sustained injuries but was not shot and refused medical attention. The subject who was shot was transported by members of the Bennington rescue squad and was subsequently airlifted to Albany Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threating injuries.

 

The case is in its earliest stages and involves members of the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Field Force Division.  No one is currently in custody, but this is believed to be an isolated incident.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On April 25, 2024, the Vermont State Police received a report of an Alarm located at the Jiffy Mart in East Wallingford, Vt. Through investigation it was determined the suspect attempted to steal an ATM machine after driving his vehicle through the front door of the store. The suspect is believed to be operating an older model Ford F-150, grey in color, a “AAA” sticker on side and a cap on the bed.

On 04/26/2024 at approximately 0221 hours, Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Boro Hill Road in the Town of Monkton. Investigation revealed V#1 rounded a corner headed south on Boro Hill Road and lost control on the gravel shoulder. V#1 rolled down a steep embankment. V#1 came to a position of uncontrolled rest on flipped over on the passenger side against two trees. Both occupants were transported to Porter Medical Center for suspected moderate injuries.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On the above date and time, the Vermont State Police responded to the report of a single motorcycle crash on VT RT 111, Morgan, VT. Upon arrival, the operator was identified as Tyler Sanville (27). Sanville displayed several signs of impairment but was transported to North Country Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Sanville was traveling west on VT RT 111 when he failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway, driving off the roadway and into the ditch where Sanville was thrown from the motorcycle.

Sanville was processed for DUI while at the hospital and release with a citation to appear in court.

Cote was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and processed at the Derby Barracks. Cote was later released on a citation to appear in court.
