SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On October 28, 2026, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Vermont State Police responded to a reported vehicle-deer collision in the area of 3537 U.S. Route 2 East in the town of Danville. Troopers were subsequently notified that a second vehicle had collided with the vehicle involved in the initial crash.

The investigation determined that Justin Lopez was operating a Subaru Crosstrek eastbound on U.S. Route 2 when his vehicle struck a deer. A short time later, the Subaru was struck by a Lexus IS operated by Michael Pereira.

During the investigation, troopers learned that Pereira had an active warrant out of Washington County for DUI and negligent operation. Pereira was also issued multiple Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for operating a vehicle without a valid license, failing to register a vehicle, and failing to carry liability insurance.

Pereira was transported to the Northeast Correctional Complex (NECC) in St. Johnsbury, where he was lodged on $100 bail.
