SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On September 12, 2025, at approximately 2350 hours, Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash involving a Chevrolet Cobalt off the road on S Richford Rd near Bridgeman Rd in Richford. The operator was traveling East on S Richford Rd when he left the roadway after navigating a curve. The vehicle ultimately came to a position of uncontrolled rest after hitting an electrical pole. The vehicle was removed from the scene, and the operator was transported to UVMMC for his injuries.

 

Troopers were assisted on scene by Richford Fire & Rescue.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at approximately 1525 hours, troopers from the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash involving two motorcycles near the P & H Truck Stop on Route 302 in Newbury.

 

Upon arrival, the operator of vehicle 1 was found unresponsive. CPR was initiated immediately, but despite lifesaving efforts, the operator was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.

 

The second operator, Steven Staniszewski, 72, of Stevensville, Maryland, sustained no injuries. His motorcycle sustained moderate damage to the rear and left side.

 

Preliminary investigation indicates that Staniszewski was traveling east on Route 302 and had slowed down as a truck was turning into the parking lot of the P & H Truck Stop. Operator 1, who  also was traveling eastbound, collided with the rear of Staniszewski’s motorcycle. Operator 1 was ejected from his vehicle, which came to rest on the southern side of the roadway.

 

At this time, neither speed nor impairment appear to be contributing factors. The crash remains under active investigation. The name of the deceased operator is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Troopers responded to the scene and learned that a domestic dispute occurred followed by a stabbing. Locke was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Saint Johnsbury State Police Barracks for processing.  He was lodged at the Northeast State Correctional Facility. Bariteau was transported to the hospital for serious non-life-threatening injuries and released with conditions of release.  Both parties are cited into Caledonia County Superior Court for September 15, 2025.

Litchfield was issued conditions of release to appear in Washington County Superior Court- Criminal Division on 09/15/2025 at 1230 hours.  Litchfield was held for lack of $200 bail.

On 9/12/25 at approximately 2249 hours, Troopers from the New Haven Barracks were notified of a single vehicle crash in the area of Middlebrook Road and Satterly Road in the Town of Ferrisburgh, Vermont. Investigation revealed the operator of V#1, Tapanga Cordova-Gil (29) of Ferrisburgh, was travelling west on Middlebrook Road at approximately 40mph. V#1 exited the roadway, struck a utility pole, and rolled onto its roof. Cordova-Gil was transported to UVM medical center for suspected moderate injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

The Vermont State Police was assisted on scene by the Ferrisburgh Fire Department and the Charlotte Rescue Squad.

On 09/12/2025 at 16:12, the Vermont State Police received a report from the Massachusetts State Police Shelburne Barracks that a vehicle nearly struck a Massachusetts State Trooper and continued into Vermont without stopping as the Massachusetts State Police attempted to conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was last known to be driving on Interstate 91 north in Guilford (Windham County), VT.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police, Westminster barracks responded, and attempted to locate the vehicle. The vehicle was later located abandoned at a gas station in Rockingham, VT. The operator, David A. McAllister was located on US Route 5 in Bellows Falls, VT by the Vermont State Police and Troopers began an investigation.

At the conclusion of the investigation, McAllister was arrested for DUI, violation of conditions of release, criminal-DLS, and false reports to law enforcement authorities. McAllister was transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Westminster for processing. 

McAllister was issued with a criminal citation and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on September 15th, 2025 at 12:30 pm to answer for the above charges.

While interacting with the at fault operator, Braley (52) Troopers observed indicators of impairment. Subsequent investigation indicated Braley had been operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants. Through investigation Troopers, determined Braley was operating her motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner and was a contributing factor to the crash.

 

Braley was taken into custody and transported to the Royalton Barracks for processing. Braley was released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Orange Criminal Division, on 12/17/2025, at 0830 hours to answer the above charge.

INCIDENT LOCATION: Dollar General, 864 Ethan Allen Highway, Georgia, Vt. 

 

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On 09/12/2025, Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU) was contacted by the Georgia Fire Department about an exterior fire on the back side of the Dollar General in Georgia, Vt. With no injuries.  Members of the FEIU responded to assist the fire department and conducted an investigation into the origin and cause of this fire. 

 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to contact Det. Sgt. David Hurwitch at the Williston Barracks, 802-878-7111 or by contacting the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program (VATAP) hotline at 1-800-32-ARSON (1-800-322-7766).
