SUMMARY OF CRASH: On December 13, 2025, at approximately 0513 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on US RT 7, near the intersection with Giddings Lane, in the Town of Pittsford.
Initial investigation revealed that Operator #1 (Ricard) was operating Vehicle #1, traveling northbound on US RT 7, when the trailer attached to Vehicle #1 became detached and stopped in the roadway, facing northbound. Operator #1 stopped Vehicle #1 and exited the vehicle to attempt to reconnect the detached trailer.
Operator #2 (Cyr) was operating Vehicle #2, traveling northbound on US RT 7, and collided with the back of the detached trailer.
Operator #1 was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for suspected minor injury. Operator #2 was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Regional Ambulance Service, the Pittsford Fire Department, and Pittsford First Response.

Batten was subsequently arrested for the suspicion of DUI and transported to the Williston Police Department for processing. Batten was later released with a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on December 30, 2025 at 0830 hours to answer to the charge of DUI.

On 12/12/25 at approximately 2316 hours Vermont State Trooper Kyle Stevens had conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle. During that stop, the occupants were allowed to make arrangements to have a friend come get the vehicle since their licenses were suspended.
During this interaction, Trooper Stevens learned this friend was possibly being chased by John Davey in his truck, who was further reported to be intoxicated. Troopers began investigating this new incident. This led to Troopers making contact with Davey at his residence. During this interaction, Davey became agitated and threatened to fight with Troopers on scene.
When Davey was advised he was under arrest, he became combative. Davey was subdued and subsequently transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Shaftsbury. Davey was later charged with DUI #3, Resisting Arrest, Driving while Criminally Suspended, and Violation of Probation.
Davey was later transported to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility for his level of intoxication.

Alexander was administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and at the conclusion was arrested for suspicion of DUI. She was transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing. Alexander was released with a citation to appear on February 11, 2026, at 0830 hours in Orange County Criminal Court to answer to the charge of DUI 2.

Following the investigation into the Burglary that occurred at the Cambridge Village Market on November 28, 2025, Troopers developed probable cause that Ian Gardner (39) of Burlington committed the offenses of Burglary, Grand Larceny, Unlawful Mischief and Possession of Stolen Property. On 12/11/2025, Troopers executed a search warrant at Gardner’s residence in Burlington and located evidence related to the burglary as well as items stolen from the store.
Gardner was also known to have an active instate warrant issued by the Vermont Department of Corrections. Troopers obtained information of Gardner’s potential whereabouts and worked closely with local agencies in attempt to locate. On the morning of 12/12/2025, Gardner was identified as a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop in the town of Williston. Gardner was subsequently arrested and later lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility. Gardner was issued a citation to appear at the Lamoille County Superior Court on December 15, 2025 at 1230 hours to answer to the charge of Burglary, Grand Larceny, Unlawful Mischief and Possession of Stolen Property.

On December 12th, 2025, at approximately 2048 hours while conducting patrol in the Town of Richford, Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks located Shaun Lagasse (45) of Richford, VT at a residence on Troy Street. Lagasse was known to have an active warrant for his arrest.
Lagasse was taken into custody for the warrant and transported to Northwest State Correctional Facility in the Town of St. Albans where he was held on $5,000 bail. Lagasse was additionally issued a flash citation ordering Lagasse to appear before the Franklin County Criminal Court on December 15th, 2025, at 1300 hours.
