SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On September 30, 2024, at approximately 2013 hours, the Vermont State Police observed a vehicle travelling north on Interstate 89 near mile marker 78.0 at a speed well in excess of the posted 65 miles per hour.  Radar was activated and confirmed the speed at 100 miles per hour. A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and the operator was identified as Wayne Aiken (53) of Swanton.

 

Further investigation revealed that Aiken had a criminally suspended license in the State of Vermont. Aiken was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Williston Barracks for processing. Aiken was issued a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court to answer for the aforementioned charges and was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for Title 23 Section 1004 - Interstate Speed which holds 2 points and a wavier amount of $530.

Investigation revealed that Andrew Towle of Danville, VT was the operator, and he crashed prior to his vehicle catching fire. Alcohol impairment was determined to be a factor. Towle was brought to NVRH for minor injuries and was ultimately cited for Suspicion of DUI and ordered to appear at the Caledonia County Court - Criminal Division to answer for the charge. VSP was assisted by the Danville Fire Department, Peacham Fire Department, and Calex.

of Townshend.  Rescue Inc. responded and confirmed that the male

subject was deceased. The scene investigation identified the decedent as Rory Struthers.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded and assisted at the

scene. Struthers' body was transported to the Office of

the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and

manner of death.  At this time Struthers' death is not suspicious.

Benware had another passenger in the vehicle, creating undue risk. Benware was issued a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court to answer the charge of Negligent Operation and was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for Title 23 Section 1004 - Interstate Speed which holds 2 points and a wavier amount of $586.

On 9/29/24 at approximately 3:51pm VSP Berlin received a report of a theft from Sir Richards Antiques and Fine Arts Center in Waterbury.   It was reported a painting valued at $2495.00 was stolen.  

 

Employees were able to provide surveillance video and images of the suspect(s), to include a suspected vehicle.  

 

The vehicle was located a short distance from the store at approximately 1731 hrs. Perry Mason, 56, of Colchester, was identified as the driver and suspect in the theft.  

 

Mason was taken into custody without incident and turned the painting over to State Police.  

 

Mason was processed at VSP Berlin and issued a citation to appear in VT Superior Court, Washington Circuit on 11/14/24.

Vermont State Police investigation determined that 42-year-old Robert A. Lawrence physically assaulted another household member. Lawrence was arrested and transported to the Westminster State Police Barracks for processing.

 

Lawrence was held without bail at Southern State Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 1230 hours to answer the above charge.

Volunteers of the Dog Mountain donation stand provided the State Police security photos and video evidence of the female suspect entering the stand, seizing the cashbox, emptying the cashbox of all bills, and leaving the scene in a vehicle shortly after. The female suspect with braided blonde hair, wearing a large Champion sweatshirt and flip-flops, can be seen counting the cash in hand in the attached photo.

              On the above listed date and time, The Vermont State Police received a report of an unknown subject currently inside a residence which was not their own, located in the area of Wylie Hill Road, Craftsbury.  Troopers arrived on scene, located and subsequently arrested the accused, Jeremiah Wild, for Burglary.  Investigation revealed Wild had burglarized a home during the morning hours of 9/28/2024 and Wild also committed the offense(s) of Unlawful Trespass X2 the day prior (9/27/2024).  Wild was transported to the Derby Barracks for processing and later lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On September 28th 2024 at approximately 1101 hours, members of the Vermont State Police received the report of a vandalism incident at a residence on Richford Road in the town of Berkshire. Investigation revealed that during the overnight hours an unknown person drove off the roadway and struck a posted political campaign sign in the front yard of the residence in question. Attached to this news release are two photographs taken from the surveillance footage of the incident for further review. On September 25, 2024, at approximately 2021 hours the Vermont State Police received a report of a family disturbance that had occurred at a residence in the town of Plainfield. Investigation revealed that Downing had assaulted a household member. Downing was arrested and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing. Per order of the courts, Downing was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on 09/30/2024 at 12:30 hours.
