Baraw was arrested and transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks for processing. On the above date and time, the Vermont State Police received a report of a wrong way driver, driving south in the north bound lanes of Interstate 89 near mile marker 61.8 in Waterbury. The vehicle, a blue Volkswagen Jetta, was located by Troopers and stopped at mile marker 47 with the assistance of the Montpelier Police Department and Vermont DMV Enforcement. The operator was identified as Carter Maxfield, 28 of Burlington, VT. Further investigation determined Maxfield was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of operation. Maxfield was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and Gross Negligent Operation. He was later processed at the Berlin Barracks and released with a citation to appear in Washington Superior Court, Criminal Division.

On 04/07/24 at approximately 2129 hours, The Vermont State Police received a report that Garret Gagne (26) had allegedly been ran over by a vehicle on Virginia Lane in the town of Highgate. Upon arrival, the vehicle had already left the scene. Gagne was transported from the scene to Northwest Medical Center for serious bodily injuries. After a thorough investigation, it was learned that Connor Duquette (30) was operating the vehicle that was alleged to have caused injury to Gagne. Duquette was reported to have been operating the vehicle in a negligent manner when the incident had taken place and had left the scene before Troopers had arrived. Duquette was located and issued a citation to appear in Franklin County Superior Court for the above charges on 06/17/24 @ 1300 hours.

On the morning of 4-30-24, William Adams contacted State Police to report that his vehicle had been stolen from his driveway in the overnight hours, by his daughter, Billiejean Adams (29). The Vermont State Police issued a be-on-the-lookout for the vehicle, which was located by members of the Bennington Police Department parked in a parking lot off Benmont Avenue in the town of Bennington, VT.

 

Shortly after the vehicle was located, Troopers located Billiejean who was still in possession of the vehicle keys. Billiejean was issued a citation to appear in Bennington Superior Court – Criminal Division on July 29, 2024 at 0815 hours to answer the charge of Operating Without Owners Consent.

A registration plate and description of the vehicle were provided along with its location and direction of travel. Troopers located the vehicle traveling south on Interstate 89 near exit 6 in the town of Berlin. Troopers matched the registration plate provided. Troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the suspected vehicle. The operator was identified as Zachary Cook of Burlington. Cook was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Berlin State Police Barracks for processing.  Cook was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court - Criminal Division and released.

On 05/01/2024 at 1252 hours, VSP Berlin responded to a disturbance at a residence on Bliss Rd, in Calais, VT. Troopers arrived on scene and served a pending restraining order on one of the involved parties, Steven Corbett. Corbett immediately violated the restraining order after being served. Corbett was arrested and he resisted arrest. Additional investigation revealed that he alleged attempted to run the victim of the restraining order, off the roadway earlier in the day. Corbett was transported and processed at the Berlin Barracks. At the conclusion of processing, Corbett was lodged at Northeast Correctional Regional Facility without bail.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

The Vermont State Police Derby Barracks is attempting to confirm the welfare of Tabitha Smith, 28, of no certain address in the Orleans County area.  Smith is believed to have been last seen in the Coventry or Orleans area in the early morning hours of 5/1/24.  There are concerns for her well-being.

 

Smith is a white female, approximately 5’04” with brown hair and blue eyes.  A clothing description is not available at this time.

 

Members of the public having information which may assist in confirming Smith’s wellbeing are encouraged to contact the VSP Derby Barracks at (802) 334-8881, by texting keyword VTIPS to 274637 (CRIMES), or at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.
