SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

Initial investigation into this crash by the Vermont State Police has determined that the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was Elijah Cameron, 23, of St. Albans, Vermont.

***Initial news release, 5:10 a.m. May 6, 2024***

On the above date and time Troopers with the Vermont State Police St. Albans Barracks responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Interstate 89 Southbound at mile marker 109.7 in the Town of Georgia. It was reported that the vehicle rolled over and was on fire. Upon arrival, Troopers observed the vehicle to be in the median of the Interstate, fully engulfed in flames. Georgia Fire extinguished the fire and Troopers determined that there was a lone operator in the vehicle who sustained fatal injuries.

 

The investigation into: the cause of the crash, identity of the decedent and full vehicle information, is active and ongoing due to the significant damage caused by the fire. As a part of this investigation, the operator has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. If anyone witnessed or has information about this incident, please contact the Vermont State Police St. Albans Barracks at 802-524-5993. This press release will be updated as the investigation continues.

On the date and time above, Troopers were monitoring traffic on US Route 5 in the Town of Barton.  Troopers observed a white Chevrolet Sonic pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed.  Troopers initiated a traffic stop and attempted to stop the vehicle.   The vehicle then began to cross the center line to pass other motor vehicles and travelling at high rates of speed.  The vehicle was not pursued and was later located again on US Route 5.  The vehicle again eluded law enforcement and was not pursued.

 

Investigations later revealed the operator was Trevor Thompson (20) of Newport Center, VT.  Thompson was arrested for the above-mentioned charges and transported to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks for processing.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On the above date, VSP Derby Troopers took a report of an assault involving a household member at an address in Derby Line.  Evidence indicated Smith assaulted a party known to him, forcibly restricted that person’s movement, impeded a witness’s ability to contact 911, and committed these offenses in the presence of a child.

 

At approximately 0850 hours, troopers arrived at the scene of the assault on Ducharme Dr, where Smith was still located.  When Smith was advised he was under arrest he attempted to flee, resisted attempts to take him into custody, and engaged the arresting troopers in a physical fight during which one was contaminated with human feces.  After a struggle, Smith was subdued and placed into custody.  Smith was transported to the VSP Derby Barracks for processing, during which he contaminated the patrol car with body fluids and attempted to damage the vehicle door.  Once secured at the Derby Barracks, he was evaluated by EMS personnel as a precaution.

 

At approximately 1640 hours, Smith was ordered held without bail by the on-call Judge and subsequently lodged at the Northern State Correctional Facility.  He is due in court on the below date and time.

On the above-mentioned date and time, the Vermont State Police received multiple reports of a wrong way driver traveling south in the northbound lane of Interstate 91.

 

Vermont State Police along with the Lyndonville Police Department and Caledonia County Sheriff's Department responded to attempt to stop the operator. 

 

The Lyndonville Police Department was able to deploy spike strips safely and successfully near MM 136 in Lyndonville, which brought the operator, later identified as Sue Stuart, to a stop at MM 135.  Stuart was subsequently taken into custody and processed for gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment.  She was released on a citation to appear at 8:30 a.m. July 8, 2024, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in St. Johnsbury to answer the charges.

Autopsy complete, investigation continues into man's death in St. Johnsbury

 

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vermont (Wednesday, May 15, 2024) — An autopsy was completed Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington. The victim is identified as Matthew Lomasney, 47, of St. Johnsbury.

 

The medical examiner determined the cause of his death was gunshot wounds to the torso, and the manner of death is a homicide.

***Update No. 2, 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024***

The Vermont State Police investigation into Monday night's suspicious death in St. Johnsbury remains active and ongoing.

 

Throughout the day, state police detectives have conducted interviews and canvassed the neighborhood near the apartment house where the reported shooting occurred. The Crime Scene Search Team is processing the location. The victim has not yet been positively identified, and there continues to be no one in custody. An autopsy is expected to take place Wednesday, May 15, in Burlington.

 

Preliminary information gathered by detectives indicates this shooting was drug-related, and the apartment in question was targeted. Individuals have told police that a masked man arrived at the building, forced his way into an upstairs apartment, and an altercation occurred with the occupants. Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots. When St. Johnsbury Police Department officers arrived, they found a masked man dead at the bottom of an interior staircase.

 

Police are familiar with the location where this incident occurred and have responded there on multiple occasions within the past year.

***Initial news release, 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024***

The Vermont State Police and the St. Johnsbury Police Department are investigating a suspicious death that was reported late Monday night, May 13, 2024, in St. Johnsbury.

 

The investigation began at about 11:15 p.m. Monday when police received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a home on Summer Street. Officers from the St. Johnsbury Police Department responded to the location and discovered a man deceased at the scene. SJPD then requested that the Vermont State Police respond and lead the investigation.

 

Initial investigation indicates this was an isolated event with no generalized threat to the community at large.

 

This case is in its initial stages and involves members of the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division, Crime Scene Search Team and Victim Services Unit. St. Johnsbury police and the Caledonia County State's Attorney's Office are providing assistance.

 

The identity of the victim is unknown at this time. The body will be brought to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death and help with positive identification. Police will release the name of the victim following further investigation and notification of relatives. No one is in custody.

Upon their arrival, Troopers were able to stop the vehicle in question without incident and identify the operator as Daniel Bartlett. Investigation revealed impairment was not a factor in the incident. Ultimately, Bartlett was issued a citation to appear before the Franklin County Superior Court on Jul 15th 2024 at 0830 hours to face the aforementioned charge of Careless and Negligent Operation.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On May 15, 2024, at approximately 0556 hours, Troopers responded to GW Tatro Construction located in Jeffersonville, for a burglary. Troopers discovered a lone male forced his way into the business causing damage and stole several company tee shirts and a company winter jacket. Through their investigation, Troopers identified the offender as Nathan Lynch, 28, of Waterville. Troopers located Lynch and took him into custody without incident. Lynch was subsequently released with a citation ordering him to appear at the Lamoille County Superior Court Criminal Division on May 22, 2024, at 1230 hours.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On May 15, 2024, at approximately 0811 hrs. Vermont State Police, Waterbury Ambulance Service and VT DMV Enforcement Division responded to a report of a school bus vs. pedestrian crash on Blush Hill Rd. in the Town of Waterbury. 

 

Initial investigation determined Bob Littletree (77) of West Hartford, VT, was operating a 2022 Freightliner school bus south on Blush Hill Rd., near the area of Kimberly Ln. in the Town of Waterbury. Littletree was traveling at approximately 5 mph when a 12-year-old juvenile ran in front of the bus, prior to the bus coming to a complete stop. The juvenile sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Central VT Medical Center.

 

Approximately 11 other juveniles were present on the bus when this incident occurred. These juveniles were transferred to another school bus to complete the route.

 

This area of Blush Hill Rd. was completely closed to the flow of traffic for approximately 2.5 hours.

Further investigations revealed Rose was continuously attempting to assault Wells River Fire Fighters with a stick while they were responding to a fire at his address. Rose was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing, where he was cited to appear in Orange County Court on June 19, 2024, at 0830 hours for the charge of Assault on Protected Professionals.

While speaking with Lisle, Troopers detected several signs of impairment and after a roadside investigation, Lisle was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

 

Lisle was transported to the Williston Barracks for processing, at the conclusion of which she was released with a criminal citation to appear before Chittenden County Superior Court on June 4, 2024, at 0830 hours to answer to the charge of DUI #1.
