On December, 31st, 2018 at approximately 0800 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks were advised of a male who walked out of Home Depot in Rutland Town with items he did not pay for. State Police Dispatch issued a BOL for the vehicle. At approximately 0815 hours, members of the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle operating on Vermont Route 103 in the Town of Clarendon. Upon arrival Troopers located stolen property belonging to Home Depot. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Sean Cambell (34) of Springfield, Vt. Cambell was released on citation and ordered to appear in the Rutland County Superior Court, Criminal Division on March 1st, 2018, at 08:30 AM to answer to the charge of Retail Theft. The stolen property was returned to Home Depot without damage.

On December, 31st, 2018 at approximately 1958 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks observed a vehicle operating in reverse toward on-coming traffic on Center street in the City of Rutland, a violation of Title 23 VSA 1113, Limitations On Backing.

 

Troopers initiated a motor-vehicle stop and identified the operator as Brett Marsden (47) of Rutland, Vermont. Marsden showed signs of alcohol impairment.  At the conclusion of Standard Field Sobriety Test's, Marsden was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported to the State Police barracks for processing.

 

Marsden was later released on citation and ordered to appear in the Rutland County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on January 21, 2019 at 08:30 AM to answer to the charge of DUI 1.

On the above date and time, State Police responded to a residence on Parsonage Ln, in Waitsfield for a family fight.  Upon arrival, Troopers learned that Nedich was intoxicated and upset with a family member.  He shoved them and stopped on their foot.  He also attempted to prevent them for calling for help.  Nedich was taken into custody and transported to the State Police Barracks in Middlesex.  He is being charged with Domestic Assault and Interference with Access to Emergency Services.  Nedich was issued conditions of release and is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court - Criminal Division on 01/02/19.

from the New Haven Barracks conducted a motor vehicle stop on a silver 2017
Chevy Cruze on US Route 7 in the Town of New Haven. Troopers identified the
operator as Kevin Jackson (27) of Ripton, VT. Subsequent investigation revealed
that Jackson's privilege to operate a motor vehicle was civilly suspended in the
State of Vermont. While speaking with Jackson, Troopers also detected several
signs of impairment. Jackson was screened for driving under the influence and
subsequently arrested for DUI. Jackson was transported to the New Haven Barracks
for processing. Jackson was released on citation to appear at the Addison County
Superior Court on April 1, 2019 at 1230 hours to answer to the charge of
DUI-Drug.

The phone number involved in the scam is (802) 242- 2022.

 

Troopers attempted to call this phone number, and were greeted by an answering device identifying as the Rutland Barracks answering service. This phone number is not associated with the Vermont State Police, or the Rutland Barracks. If you receive a call like this from an unknown number identifying as the Department of Public Safety, or Law Enforcement you can contact Troopers from the Rutland Barracks at (802) 773-9101 to confirm the validity of the call.

SATURATION PATROL

 

 

On December 31, 2018, Troopers from the Westminster Barracks conducted a saturation patrol on Interstate 91 throughout Windham and Windsor counties and Route 30 in Newfane and Townshend.  The focus of the patrol was to detect aggressive driving (speeding), hand held portable electronic devices violations and promote safe driving on Vermont roadways. During the patrol, Troopers initiated 39 traffic stops, issuing 20 VCVCs for speed and 22 warnings for various motor vehicle violations.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On the evening of 12/30/2018, Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks responded to the area of Dunham Road, near the intersection of Pine Knoll, in the Town of Sunderland, Vermont, for a report of single vehicle crash.   

 

Investigation revealed that Vehicle # 1, operated by Ellis (20), was traveling north on Dunham Road at an excessive speed.  Ellis became distracted and crossed into the oncoming lane of travel.  Ellis attempted to correct his direction of travel, lost control and struck a tree.  Ellis suffered injuries to his neck, back and rib as a result of the crash.  Ellis was transported to Southern Vermont Medical Center for evaluation.

 

Members from the Arlington Rescue Squad and Arlington Fire Department assisted at the scene.    

 

 This incident is still under investigation.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On December 30, 2018, between 2000 hours and 2200 hours, Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks in conjunction with Officers/Deputies from the Bennington Police Department, Bennington County Sheriff’s, Winhall Police Department and Manchester Police Department conducted a sobriety and safety checkpoint on Vermont Route 30/11 in the town of Manchester, VT. The main purpose of the detail was to focus on impaired driving and seatbelt compliance. During the detail a total of 432 vehicles were encountered, including 1080 occupants. During the detail twenty-three (23) operators were screened for impairment. One (1) operator was arrested for DUI. Several civil violations and traffic warnings were issued.

 

The Vermont State Police would like to remind motorists to avoid operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs and to always utilize a sober driver. In addition, during the New Year’s holiday, State Police encourage the public to utilize safe rides to include; taxis, shuttles and designated drivers to ensure Vermont’s roadways are safe.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 12/30/2018 at 1912 hours, Vermont State Police stopped a motor vehicle for several motor vehicle violations on Main Street in the Village of Orleans. The operator was identified as Kasea L. Hill who was operating the vehicle with a criminally suspended license. Hill was also found in possession of prescription pills which did not belong to her as well as held several conditions of release, stating she was not to operate a motor vehicle. Hill was placed under arrest and transported to the Derby Barracks for processing. Hill was released on a citation to appear in Orleans County Court on January 22, 2019. This case remains under investigation.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 12/28/2018, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks, were dispatched to a family fight in the Town of Tinmouth.  It was reported William Healis (42) displayed and discharged a firearm at a family member after a physical altercation. While en-route to the call Troopers were advised the assaultive male had left the scene in a vehicle and was traveling south. Family members were able to give a description of the vehicle to Dispatch and a BOL (be on the Lookout) was issued to surrounding agencies.

Officers from the Manchester Police Department located the vehicle traveling south on US Route 7 in the Town of Manchester.  Troopers and the Manchester Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop.  The operator of the vehicle was identified as William Healis. 

During the investigation it was learned, Healis had a physical altercation with multiple family members at a home in Tinmouth.  At the conclusion of the altercation Healis fired a single round at a family member. There were no injuries as a result of the gun shot. 

Healis was taken into custody and transported to the State Police Barracks in Rutland for processing.  Healis was subsequently lodged at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center.  Healis was held without bail.

SATURATION PATROL

 

On December 30, 2018 in the early evening hours, Troopers from the Westminster Barracks conducted a saturation patrol in Windham and Windsor counties, concentrating their efforts on Interstate 91.  The purpose of the patrol was to detect and identifying aggressive drivers and impaired operators (DUI/DWI) while enforcing motor vehicle laws.

 

During the patrol, Troopers initiated 34 traffic stops,  while issuing several traffic tickets written warnings for various motor vehicle violations.    Two operators were screened for possible DUI but were release when it was determined that there were not impaired.   

 

During this Holiday Season, the State Police would like to remind all motorists to consider utilizing a designated driver or seek alternative transportation when planning to consume alcohol or drugs.
