Ovitt was issued a citation for violation of Title 13 VSA 2002, False Pretenses, without incident.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On February 11, 2024 at approximately 4:33 AM Troopers from the St. Albans barracks were dispatched to a burglary at the Georgia Market, located at 962 Ethan Allen Highway in the Town of Georgia.

 

 Upon arrival, Troopers performed a security sweep of the store; no suspects were located inside. Troopers discovered the suspects had entered the market via a smashed glass door. Several items from inside the store were missing.

 

 Preliminary security video review showed that two male subjects entered the market by force (utilizing a hatchet to smash the glass door) at approximately 4:18 AM. Additional security images will be added to this media release when available.

While speaking with the operator, Blaze Graham-Cochran (21) of Glover, Troopers observed indicators of impairment. Graham-Cochran was subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI- Drug. Graham-Cochran was transported to the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing prior to being released to a sober adult. Graham-Cochran was issued a citation to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court to address the charges.

On 2/28/24 at approximately 1114 hours, Vermont State Police were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance at the Burke Town School. Investigation revealed that a bullet went through the wall of one of the buildings of the school and was found on the floor after hitting a bookshelf. According to staff this may have occurred anytime between August 2023 and 2/28/24. Investigation to this point indicates the round was fired from a muzzleloader at a significant distance from the school. This does not appear to be a malicious act. SATURATION PATROL

On February 29th, 2024 between the hours of 0700 to 1200, Troopers from the Berlin State Police Barracks conducted a saturation patrol on I-89 in Washington and Orange Counties as well as Waterbury, VT. Areas of focus included the stretch of interstate from Brookfield to Waterbury as well as the village of Waterbury. The purpose of the patrol was to detect and identify aggressive drivers and promote safe driving.

 

Details:

•            Number of traffic stops: 64

•            Number of traffic tickets issued: 23

•            Number of written warnings issued: 47

 

Highlights:

 

-One Operator was arrested and ticketed for traveling 96 MPH in a 50 MPH zone.

-One operator was ticketed for operating with a suspended license.

-Six operators were ticketed for traveling in excess of 85 MPH.

-Three Operators were ticketed for traveling in excess of 90 MPH.

-Multiple vehicles stopped for cell phone use.

 

The Vermont State Police would like to remind all motorists to drive responsibility, utilize a sober driver, leave a safe distance between vehicles, and put their phones down.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted and the driver was identified by her Vermont license as Stacie Winauski. She advised she was aware of the speed and issued a ticket for the speeding infraction. Winauski was also criminally cited to appear in Washington County Superior Court on 3/22/24 at 0830 to answer to the charges of Negligent Operation and Excessive Speed.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On January 6, 2024 at approximately 9:27 AM Troopers from the St. Albans barracks received a report of a theft from a vehicle on Church St. in the Town of Enosburg. Troopers learned that, in the overnight hours from 1/5/24 to 1/6/24, two unlocked vehicles parked at a residence had been entered. A wallet and other miscellaneous items had been stolen from the vehicles.

 

In the days after the theft, Troopers were advised that a debit card stolen from one of the vehicles had been used at the Jolley Convenience store in Enosburg. Video was obtained from the store of two suspects, Anthony Mason, 30, of Bakersfield and Oliviah Ovitt, 27, of Bakersfield.

 

Investigation ultimately lead to both Mason and Ovitt receiving criminal citations for the offenses of False Pretenses or Tokens and Possessing/Receiving Stolen Property.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On 2/29/24 at approximately 0739 hours, Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Shoreham Whiting Road near the intersection with VT Route 30 in the Town of Whiting. Investigation revealed V#1 was traveling west and V#2 was traveling east, both at reasonable speeds. OP#1 turned left into a private driveway without yielding to V#2. As a result, the front end of V#1 struck the front end of V#2 and both vehicles came to respective positions of uncontrolled rest off the eastbound lane. Both operators sustained suspected moderate-level injuries and were transported to Porter Medical Center by ambulance.

 

Troopers were assisted on scene by members of Middlebury EMS and the Whiting Fire Department.

On February 28, 2024, at approximately 2331 hours, a Trooper from the Vermont State Police – Williston Barracks conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle utilize a U-Turn on Interstate 89, mile marker 74 in the town of Richmond.  The operator was identified as Marco Bermejo Pichazaca (26) of Ecuador.  While speaking with the operator, Troopers detected indicators of impairment.  The operator was subsequently arrested for the suspicion of DUI and transported to the Williston Barracks for processing.  At the conclusion of processing, the operator was released with a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on March 29, 2024, at 0815 hours to answer for the charge of DUI #1.
