On August 3rd, 2026, at approximately 1921 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police – St. Albans Barracks responded to multiple reports of apparent drug use in a vehicle in the McDonald's parking lot in Enosburgh, VT. On scene, Troopers identified the operator of the vehicle as Tanner Hart (32) of Richford, VT. While speaking with Hart, he demonstrated signs of impairment.
While being taken into custody for driving under the influence, Hart resisted arrest. Hart was then transported to the St. Albans Barracks for processing and issued a citation to appear in Franklin County Criminal Court on September 15th, 2026, at 0800 hours for the above charges.

The Vermont State Police investigated a report of a potentially suspicious incident Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at the Farm and Wilderness Camp in Plymouth, Vermont. The incident was determined to be unfounded.
At about 10:24 a.m., two juvenile campers reported seeing a man with a rifle wearing camouflage in the woods adjacent to the camp. Camp staff also reported hearing several suspected gunshots in the general area. Camp staff followed their safety procedures and notified the Vermont State Police.
Troopers responded to the area, and a subsequent search located no suspicious individuals or other evidence. A trooper met with camp staff and children to discuss the incident. It should be noted that practice shooting does occur in the general area near the camp on a regular basis.
Further questions regarding this incident should be directed to the Farm and Wilderness Camp.

On August 2nd, 2026, at approximately 1358 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Williston Barracks were conducting RADAR speed enforcement along a section of VT RT 15 in Hyde Park near Centerville Rd. A vehicle was observed traveling above the posted 50mph speed limit. RADAR was activated and confirmed a speed of 68mph, constituting a violation of Title 23 V.S.A. 1081(b), Basic Rule and Maximum Limits.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the operator was identified as Gordon Whitcomb, 57, of Hardwick. While speaking with Whitcomb, Troopers observed numerous indicators of impairment. He was screened and subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI.
Whitcomb was transported to the Morristown Police Department for processing. He was then released with a citation to appear in the Lamoille County Superior Court on August 19th, 2026, at 1230 hours, to answer to the charge of DUI #2.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
The Vermont State Police is investigating after a man was
shot and injured Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2026, on Jefferson Hill Road in
Newbury. Initial investigation indicates the man was shot in the roadway and
sustained serious injury at about 2:05 p.m.
The victim was airlifted by the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced
Response Team (DHART) to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New
Hampshire. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
This investigation is in its preliminary stages. VSP believes
this was an isolated incident involving individuals who knew each other, and
there is no identified threat to the community at large. The name of the man
who was shot is being withheld pending further investigation and notification
of relatives.
This investigation involves members of the Vermont State
Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search
Team, Field Force Division and Victim Services Unit. The roadway is closed
while the scene is being processed.
