SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On May 14, 2020 at approximately 0900 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police - Middlesex barracks were alerted to an erratic driver southbound on I-89 in the area of the Bolton/Waterbury line.

Witnesses followed the vehicle until it exited the interstate and eventually turned onto Farr Rd in the Town of Waterbury. Troopers located and successfully stopped the vehicle on that road.

Troopers identified the operator of the vehicle as Melinda Benoit, 33, of Barre, VT. Benoit was found to have a criminally suspended operator's license and was actively violating court ordered conditions of release. Troopers further observed indicators of impairment, and asked Benoit to undergo a roadside sobriety test. At the conclusion of that test, Benoit was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI.
