SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On April 4, 2020 at approximately 1920 hours, Troopers from
the Shaftsbury Barracks observed two vehicles travelling on East Road in the
Town of Bennington at extremely high rates of speed. Both vehicles were recorded
travelling at 108 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone with the cruisers radar device.
Upon activation of the cruiser's blue emergency lights and siren, one of the
vehicles fled onto a side street.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted on the second vehicle and the operator was
identified as Daris Carter (39) of Bennington, VT. Carter was issued a Vermont
Civil Violation Complaint (VCVC) for speed and later released on citation to
appear at the Bennington County Superior Court on June 1, 2020 at 0815 hours to
answer to the above charges. The VCVC carries a waiver penalty of $1054 and 8
points.

Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks with the assistance of the Bennington
Police Department flooded the area but were unable to located the other involved
vehicle. The vehicle in question was a older model, silver colored sedan with
bright, blue tinted headlights.
