SUMMARY OF CRASH: On December 29, 2019 at approximately 1205 hours VSP Williston Troopers responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries on I89 in Colchester. Initial information from witnesses was the involved vehicle was being driven erratically, crashed, and the operator got into a fist fight with another driver. Through investigation Troopers found that Steven G. Bessette Jr. 32 y/o of South Hero, VT was traveling south on I89 at a high rate of speed, lost control, and crashed into a steel guidewire. After the collision Bessette got into a verbal confrontation with another motorist who stopped to check on him and struck the motorist’s face with a closed fist. That motorist then struck Bessette in the face and knocked him unconscious. Bessette was transported to UVMC for injuries related to the crash and released. At UVMC Troopers arrested Bessette at UVMC and he was processed for DUI at the Williston State Police Barracks. Bessette was charged with DUI#2, Careless and Negligent Operation, Simple Assault, as well as Disorderly Conduct. Bessette will be required to appear in Chittenden Superior Court on January 16, 2020 to answer to the above charges.
