SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On December 29th, 2019 at approximately 1628 hours Troopers with VSP Williston were notified of multiple 911 calls regarding a reckless driver on I-89 Northbound between exit 11 and exit 12. Troopers responded to the area in an attempt to intercept the vehicle.

Troopers were then notified of a two vehicle crash that had just occurred on I-89 Northbound by the Williston Rest Area in which the at-fault vehicle fled the scene. Further information was received stating that the fleeing vehicle was the same one from the 911 calls.

Shortly thereafter, Troopers and Officers with Williston PD were notified of a two vehicle head on crash on St. George Road immediately in front of the I-89 Northbound exit 12 offramp.

Responding Troopers and Officers found that the at-fault vehicle for the second crash was the same vehicle from the 911 calls and the first crash on I-89. The operator of the vehicle was found to be uninjured and was identified as Nicholas Schneidt (age 23) of Branford, CT. Investigation determined that Schneidt had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

It should be noted that the sole occupant of the first vehicle Schneidt struck was uninjured and the two occupants of the second vehicle he struck received minor injuries.

Schneidt was arrested without incident and transported to the Williston State Police Barracks for processing. At the conclusion of processing and per order of the court, Schneidt was ordered held at Chittenden Regional Correctional Center until sober with a flash citation to appear before Chittenden County Superior Court on December 30th, 2019 at 1330 hours to answer to the aforementioned charges.
