Westminster Barracks - Multiple Crashes and Poor Roadway Conditions in Windham & Windsor County

VSP News Release-Incident

RANK/TROOPER FULL NAME: Sgt. Ryan Wood

STATION: Westminster Barracks

CONTACT#: 802-722-4600

DATE/TIME: 12/13/19 1400 – 12/14/19 ongoing

INCIDENT LOCATION: Windham & Windsor Counties

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Starting during the afternoon hours of 12/13/19 and continuing into the early morning hours of 12/14/19, Troopers with the Vermont State Police Westminster Barracks responded to dozens of separate crashes throughout Windham and Windsor County. These crashes included single and multiple vehicle slide offs, multiple vehicle crashes with and without injuries, as well as a fatal crash. Roadway conditions earlier in the day were wet and icy on both main and side roads.  Despite efforts by Town and State Highway, roadways throughout the patrol area remain icy and vehicles are continuing to struggle with staying on the road.  VSP is encouraging motorists to stay home or limit unnecessary travel until conditions improve in the morning - allowing Highway crews to treat the roads along with rising temperatures.  VSP was assisted by numerous Fire Department, Rescue Crews and Police Departments throughout the night.
