SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

In the morning hours of 12/15/19, a joint arrest was made by the Vermont Fish

and Wildlife Department-Enforcement Division and the Vermont State Police.

A Fish and Wildlife Game Warden was investigating an injured

animal on Vermont Route 30, in the Town of Townshend. The warden was operating a

marked police vehicle, with his emergency warning lights activated. The warden

was overtaken by a vehicle that had gone into oncoming traffic to pass him, and, forced the

oncoming traffic off the roadway.

The warden then attempted to conduct a traffic stop (emergency lights and siren activated), when the vehicle failed to stop. Due to the

negligent manner of operation, he pursued the vehicle.

Law enforcement resources from the Brattleboro Police Department and Vermont

State Police Westminster Barracks descended upon the area to assist. Law Enforcement was able to ultimately stop the vehicle on VT-30 in Brattleboro. The operator, Kevin C. Fletcher, 51, of Bristol, Rhode Island, was taken into custody, without incident.

Subsequent investigation led to the discovery that Fletcher was impaired while operating his vehicle.

Fletcher was processed at the Brattleboro Police Department and released to a sober party. Fletcher was cited in the Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division to answer to the charges of Negligent Operation, Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer and Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.
