SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On 12/15/2019, with assistance from Burlington Police Department, the Vermont State Police were able to make contact and place Michael Gonzalez (30) under arrest for the below charges:

 

  1. Gross Negligent Operation (Injury resulting)
  2. Leaving the Scene of an accident (Injury resulting)
  3. Driving License Suspended- Criminal
  4. Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol #1
  5. Violation of Conditions of Release

 

Through the investigation it was found that Gonzalez was in control of a 2019 Ford Fusion and traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Interstate 89N in the town of South Burlington. While traveling at a high rate of speed, Gonzales attempted to drive between two vehicles traveling northbound, causing a collision. Before State Police and First Responders were able to arrive on scene, Gonzalez fled the crash scene on foot. Gonzalez also has a criminally suspended license.

 

During this event it was found that Gonzalez was in contact with a person he has Court conditions not to interact with.

 

Gonzalez was released with a citation to appear before Chittenden Criminal Court for the above charges on January 23rd, 2020.

 

This incident is still under investigation. The Vermont State Police are still asking anyone with information to contact the Vermont State Police at the Williston Barracks.

 

**Initial News Release 12/15/2019 6:11 AM**

 

On 12/14/2019 at approximately 9:47 pm Vermont State Police, South Burlington

Fire Dept., South Burlington EMS and University of Vermont EMS were dispatched

to a 4 vehicle crash on I-89 in the town of South Burlington.  

 

Investigation determined Vehicle #1 had collided with Vehicle's #2 and #3.   It

then collided with the rear of Vehicle #4.   All 4 vehicles were traveling

northbound.   

 

As a result of the collisions, Vehicle #1 was disabled and came to rest in the

median.  Vehicle #2 was disabled and remained in the roadway.   Vehicle #3

sustained damages but was able to be driven from the scene.   Vehicle #4 came to

rest on its roof, off the east edge of the roadway. 

 

The occupants of Vehicle's #2 and #3 were transported to the University of

Vermont Medical Center with minor injuries.   The operator of Vehicle #1 fled

the scene on foot. 

 

The northbound lanes of Interstate 89 were closed for approximately 10 minutes while First Responders worked to make the scene safe for traffic.

 

This investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information related to the crash as asked to contact the Vermont State Police at the Williston Barracks.
