Narrative:

On December 21, 2019, between 2000 and 2200 hours, Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks joined forces with Manchester PD, Winhall PD and Bennington PD to conduct a joint agency check point on Depot Street in Manchester (VT).  Following the checkpoint was a joint agency traffic enforcement detail from 2200-0200 hours.

The focus of the check point / saturation patrol was to apprehend impaired drivers (DUI) and to promote safe driving.

While at the check point and on patrol, Law Enforcement Officers from the above agencies made contact with 198 motor vehicles and 495 occupants.  Troopers made 2 arrests: 1 operator was found to have been Driving Under the Influence (DUI).  A second operator for operating Under Criminal Suspension (DLS) and Violating Court Ordered Conditions of Release (VOC).  Throughout the evening, Troopers issued a total of 9 VCVC’s (tickets) and 17 written warnings.  Several motorists were screened for possible impairment.

The Vermont State Police plan to continue joint traffic enforcement details and checkpoints throughout Bennington County in the future to encourage safe driving behavior.
