Shaftsbury Barracks- ill Equipped/ injured Hiker

PRESS RELEASE- ILL EQUIPPED/ INJURED HIKER

LOCATION: Appalachian Trail, Goddard Shelter, Glastenbury

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 11/13/2019 at approximately 1627 hours, VSP Shaftsbury received a call from an ill equipped/ injured hiker on the Appalachian Trail, in the area of Goddard Shelter, in Glastenbury (VT).  The hiker was identified as Eric Wrisley, age 36, of Agawam (MA).

 

After receiving the call, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Search and Rescue team and Wardens from VT Fish and Wildlife entered the Appalachian Trail and searched the above area.  They located Wrisley at approximately 2150 hours.  Wrisley was cold, weak, and had suffered a minor injury while hiking which prevented him from hiking to safety.  Troopers and Wardens then worked together to transport Wrisley off the trail to safety. 

 

Wrisley was later treated by Bennington Rescue personnel and released.
