SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  On the above date and time Vermont State Police Dispatch received numerous calls regarding a tractor trailer truck that was driving south bound in the north bound lanes of Interstate 89 from the area of Exit 5 in Williamstown.  Troopers from both Royalton and Middlesex responded along with DMV Inspectors working in the Randolph area and made contact with the truck in the area of mile marker 33, still traveling against the flow in the north bound lanes.  A Trooper and DMV Inspector were able to get the vehicle stopped just before a U-turn and then directed the driver to pull in to the U-turn out of the lanes of travel.

The driver of the truck, Daniel F. Sheehan Jr., was unable to provide an explanation as to how he ended up driving wrong way against the flow of traffic for approximately 10 miles.  Sheehan was screened roadside for suspected impaired driving and screened by emergency medical personnel for any medical conditions.  Sheehan was then arrested and transported to the Royalton Barracks for processing for suspected driving under the influence.

There were no injuries during this incident.  There were no reported crashes, although several vehicles were run off the road during course of the event.  Anyone who witnessed this incident are asked to call Trooper Tingle at the Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933.
