Update to the news released issued on February 6, 2020.

 

The Vermont State Police has identified the male victim who was injured during a fire at 588 Bolton Valley Access Road on February 5, 2020 as 38 year old Thor Grove.  Mr. Grove remains in the hospital where he continues to be treated for severe burn injuries.  The State Police do not have any further information about Mr. Grove’s condition. 

 

Additional investigation by the State Police has determined that Mrs. Skelly was the tenant at the time of the fire and that her son, Thor Grove, was staying with her at the apartment. 

 

This fire event is still under investigation.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On February 5, 2020 at 11:08 PM the Bolton Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a residential fire at 588 Bolton Valley Access Road in Bolton.  This address was the business formerly known as the Ski Shop and owned by Bolton resident Kevin Lynch.  When fire fighter arrived they discovered heavy fire coming from the second floor of the structure on the north and west sides.  Several area fire departments were dispatched to the scene to assist in the firefighting efforts.

 

Two people who may have been living in the upstairs apartment were found outside the structure and were transported to the UVM Medical Center for treatment.  The male who was transported is in serious condition with substantial burn injuries.  Investigators have not yet able to verify his identity.  The woman who was transported has been identified as 61 year old Patricia Skelly of Montpelier; she was treated and released.    

 

The business had been closed for several years and according to the property owner the building should have been vacant.  The building is considered a total loss valued at $170,000.

 

Investigators determined that the fire started on the west end of the second floor.  The cause of the fire event is still under investigation.  Anyone with information about this fire event is asked to contact the Vermont State Police at (802)878-7111 or the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program at 1-800-32-ARSON (1-800-322-7766).
