SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 11/30/19, at approximately 1128 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks responded to a threatening complaint at 2743 Vermont Route 22A, in the Town of West Haven. 

 

Through investigation it was determined Michael G. Bruno, age 48, of Castleton Vermont was armed with a deadly weapon and threatened to use the deadly weapon (semi-automatic pistol) on three juveniles.  Troopers further learned Bruno engaged in a course of conduct directed at the three juveniles with the intent to cause them inconvenience and engaged in violent, tumultuous, and threatening behavior while using abusive and obscene language and threatening serious bodily injury (through active pointing of a firearm).  Bruno knowingly restrained three juveniles under circumstances which exposed them to a risk of serious bodily injury.  Bruno is a person who maliciously threatened, with intent, to compel a juvenile to do an act against his/her will. Bruno committed the crime of kidnapping by knowingly restrained the juveniles and placed them in fear of bodily injury.

 

Based on these violations Bruno was taken into custody and processed at the Castleton Police Department.  After processing, Bruno was lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $20,000 bail.

Kenyon was also found to be violating court ordered conditions by operating a motor vehicle on a public highway. Equally important, Kenyon appeared to be displaying signs of impairment. Kenyon was transported to the Bradford State Police Outpost where she was processed and released on a citation to appear in Orange County Criminal Court to answer to the above charges.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 10/27/19 at approximately 1805 hours, Troopers were dispatched to a report of a two-car motor vehicle crash involving a head-on collision. Investigation indicates that V#1 was traveling north at a speed of 58-59 MPH, crossed the yellow centerline, and struck V#2, which was traveling south. Each vehicle had
one passenger, and all four occupants were transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center with serious bodily injuries. All four occupants are stable.

Tre Nichols (OP#1) was found to be at fault for this crash. On 11/30/19, Nichols came to the New Haven Barracks and was issued a citation to appear at Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division on 02/24/20 at 1230 hours to answer to the charge of Negligent Operation. Nichols was also issued two VCVCs for
violations of 23 VSA 1081(a), "Unreasonable and imprudent speeds for conditions," and 23 VSA 1038, "Driving on roadways laned for traffic," which carried a total waiver penalty of $440.00 and 4 points.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On November 30, 2019, at approximately 1513 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks observed a crash occur on US Route 4, at Old Turnpike Road, in the Town of Mendon, Vermont.

Through investigation it was determined Operator #1 (Johnson) was operating vehicle #1, traveling eastbound on US Route 4 attempting to turn left onto Old Turnpike Road from the right lane. Operator #2 (Watson) was operating vehicle #2, traveling eastbound on US Route 4 in the left lane of travel. Vehicle #1 turned left into vehicle #2 causing damage to both vehicles. No injuries were sustained from the crash.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

              On 11/26/2019 at approximately 0930 hours, State Police located Brian Short and Sarah Romanowski inside the vacant residence of 65 Trucott Place in the town of Glover, VT. The home is owned by Mary Short which was on the market for sale; Short and Romanowski did not have permission to utilize the residence. Short and Romanowski were taken into custody. As their belongings were removed from the residence, State Police located a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine. Their vehicle was also located inside the residence’s garage and it was seized. After a search warrant was conducted on the vehicle, State Police located several items believed to have been stolen from businesses in the Derby area to include SSXcavating and Walmart. Short and Romanowski were held on $200 cash or surety bond for the night and appeared in Orleans County Court on 11/27/2019 at 1100 hours to answer to the above charges. There have been numerous burglaries reported in the Derby area over the past couple of weeks. This case is still under active investigation and additionally any ties to the recent burglaries are being sought. Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the State Police Derby Barracks.

operator of the vehicle, who was identified as Mariah M. LaPlant (DOB:
1/30/1996).  Further investigation revealed that LaPlant had consumed alcohol
during the course of the evening.  After conducting standard field sobriety
tests, LaPlant was placed into custody for suspicion of DUI.  LaPlant was
subsequently transported to the Middlesex State Police Barracks for processing.
Once at the Middlesex Barracks, LaPlant was finger printed and photographed and
released on a citation to appear in Washington County District Court on December
19, 2019 at 0830 hours to answer the charge of DUI #1.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 11/30/2019 at approximately 2106 hours, the Vermont State

Police responded to Hudson Road in the Town of Charleston, VT for a report of a

two vehicle crash. Upon troopers arrival, operators were identified as Tamieka

Daigle and Katherine Farber. Investigation revealed Daigle was traveling east, when

she lost control of her vehicle and struck Farber's vehicle which was traveling west.

Neither operator reported any injuries. Daigle's vehicle was towed by Wrights Towing.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On November 29, 2019, between 2000 hours and 2200 hours, as part of the State Police 2019 Thanksgiving High Visibility Enforcement Campaign, the Vermont State Police in conjunction with Bennington Police Department, Manchester Police Department and Winhall Police Department participated in a sobriety and safety  checkpoint on Vermont Route 11/30 in the town of Manchester, VT. The main purpose of the detail was to focus on impaired driving and seatbelt compliance. During the detail a total of 249 vehicles were encountered, including 623 occupants. During the detail three (3) operators were screened for impairment. Two (2) operators were arrested for DUI. Several civil violations and traffic warnings were issued.

 

The Vermont State Police would like to remind motorists to avoid operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs and to always utilize a sober driver.

Troopers identified the operator as, Daniel Cubell, age 42, of Wellesley, MA.  Cubell showed signs of impairment and was screened for DUI.  Investigation revealed that Cubell was in physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. There were three juveniles in the vehicle. 

 

Subsequently, Cubell was taken into custody, and processed at the Manchester Police Department for Driving Under the Influence.  Cubell was released on citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Bennington Criminal Division on December 16th, 2019, at 0815 hours.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On November 29, 2019, at approximately 2146 hours, the Vermont State Police were dispatched to a one-car motor vehicle crash on Meehan Road in the Town of Bristol. State Police were further advised that the vehicle involved, crashed head-on into a tree and that the operator had fled the area.

 

The operator of the vehicle, Frederick Goodrich (33) was located and advised Troopers he was traveling west on Meehan Road towards VT Route 116 and that his vehicle collided with a tree. While speaking with Goodrich, several signs of alcohol impairment were observed. Goodrich was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing.

 

Goodrich was issued a criminal citation to appear before the Addison Superior Court to answer the charges of Title 23 VSA 1201 "Operating under the influence of intoxicants or other substance," Title 23 VSA 674 "Operating after suspension or revocation of license," Title 13 VSA 1754 "False reports to law enforcement authorities.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On November 29, 2019, at approximately 1706 hours, Vermont State Game Wardens approached and checked on a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of Downingsville Rd. in the Town of Lincoln, VT. Wardens identified the operator as David Jerome (60) of Lincoln, VT. Jerome had multiple open alcohol containers and long gun in the front seat of the vehicle. Wardens observed multiple indicators of impairment, and requested Troopers to respond to investigate further. 


Troopers arrived on scene and while speaking with Jerome, Troopers also observed indicators of alcohol impairment. Jerome offered to perform standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. Jerome was transported to the New Haven barracks for processing, and was released with a citation to answer to the charge of "Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Other Substance," a violation of Title 23 VSA 1201.
