SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On September 20, 2018 at 05:14 hours, the Vermont State Police were notified of a single car crash on Interstate 89 (northbound) in Bolton.

The vehicle involved was found heavily damaged in the median, with extensive guardrail damage at the scene.   First responders from the Williston Police Department, Richmond Rescue Squad and Bolton Fire Department were unable to locate an operator or occupants at the scene.   The Colchester Police Department later located the registered owner of the vehicle at his residence in Colchester.  Poulin was identified by the State Police as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.  Poulin advised that he fell asleep behind the wheel while traveling northbound on Interstate 89.

Investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was traveling north on Interstate 89 when it drifted off the travel portion of the highway and entered the median.  Vehicle 1 struck a guardrail and rolled down a short and steep embankment.

Poulin sustained a superficial hand injury and did not seek medical attention.

Vehicle 1 sustained significant damage throughout and is considered a total loss.  Approximately forty feet of guardrail was damaged and will need to be replaced as a result of the crash.

Interstate 89 Northbound was reduced to one lane for approximately an hour and thirty minutes while the investigation was conducted and the vehicle was removed.

Poulin was issued a citation by the State Police for Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  Civil traffic violations may also be issued pending the outcome of this investigation.
