VIOLATION: Sale of Crack Cocaine & Violation of Supervised Release

Court Date: November 12, 2018

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On September 12, 2018, the Vermont Drug Task Force arrested Jack P. Reed Jr. in Rutland City. Reed's arrest came after a state drug investigation and the issuance of a federal arrest warrant for violation of supervised release. Reed's supervised release stems from a 2017 federal drug conviction for heroin distribution.

Prior to the issuance of the federal arrest warrant, the Vermont Drug Task Force conducted a drug investigation in August of 2018. During the investigation, Reed sold $100.00 worth of crack cocaine to a confidential informant.

Reed was cited to appear in Rutland Superior Court – Criminal Division on November 12, 2018, to answer one felony count of sale of crack cocaine. Reed was lodged at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility on the federal arrest warrant and later turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. Reed appeared before a federal Judge in Rutland on September 13, 2018 and was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Reed's violation of supervised release is being handled by the U.S. Attorney's Office. His sale charge is being prosecuted by the Rutland County State's Attorney's Office.

The Vermont Drug Task Force was assisted by Field Force Troopers from the Rutland Barracks.
