SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

At approximately 0814 hours on 08/05/18, a fire was reported at the Farley residence located at 342 Creamery Rd in South Ryegate. Ryegate Fire Department responded to the scene along with Groton and Wells River Fire Departments. First responding units encountered flames and heavy smoke on the first floor level of the two and half story building. Fire department personnel then located fire in the area of a utility room on the first floor.

Fire personnel were able to contain and extinguish the fire before it spread to other areas of the residence. The basement suffered fire, heat and smoke damage, while the remainder of the residence sustained heavy smoke damage. 
 
During his assessment of the fire, Ryegate Fire Chief Gene Perkins contacted the VT Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosions Investigation Unit for assistance with an origin and cause determination. Investigators from the VT State Police and VT Division of Fire Safety(VT Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosions Unit) responded to the scene on 08/06/18 and began an investigation. Through the investigation it was determined that the fire originated on the floor of the first floor near the utility room. The area of origin was determined to be on the floor near a vaccuum cleaner and a pile of laundry. 

The fire does not appear suspicious and is classified as Undetermined at this time.
