SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On August 3rd, 2018 at approximately 0007 hours a Trooper with Vermont State Police St. Albans observed a vehicle travelling east on Route 2 in the area of I-89 exit 17 in the town of Colchester at a speed the Trooper visually estimated to be in extreme excess of the posted speed limit.

The Trooper began following the vehicle in question and observed as it committed multiple moving violations as it began travelling south on US Route 7 from the area of Chimney Corners. After observing the vehicle accelerate rapidly the Trooper attempted to affect a motor vehicle stop, at which point the vehicle failed to yield and continued driving south on US Route 7 at speeds of approximately 100mph in a 50mph zone.

The vehicle was ultimately stopped after it fled into and parked at a business along US Route 7. The operator was immediately taken into custody and during the subsequent investigation it was determined he had been operating the motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was ultimately identified as Robert A. Gaudette Jr. (age 30) of Milton, VT. During the investigation Troopers located a loaded long-gun in the backseat of the vehicle. It was also learned that Gaudette was currently on probation for prior criminal charges.

The two passengers of the vehicle, a 30 year old male and a 17 year old female, were released from the scene.

Gaudette's vehicle was towed from the scene and he was transported to the St. Albans State Police Barracks for processing, at the conclusion of which he was released with a citation to appear before Chittenden County Superior Court on August 28th, 2018 at 0830 hours to answer the above charges.

Gaudette is expected to receive multiple Vermont Civil Violation Complaints related to the motor vehicle violations that were committed during this incident.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges related to the loaded long-gun are pending.
