SUMMARY OF CRASH: On August 9, 2018, at approximately 1526 hours, State Police

responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision on Vermont Route 22A in the Town

of Addison. State Police identified Operator#1 as John Doyle. Doyle advised that

prior to the collision, he was travelling southbound on Vermont Route 22A  at

approximately 50mph. Doyle stated that the vehicle travelling in front of him

was travelling at a speed well under the speed limit so he attempted to pass the

vehicle and when he did so, he collided with another vehicle who was also

attempting to pass. State Police subsequently identified Operator#2 as Charles

Baker. Baker advised that prior to the collision he was also travelling

southbound on Vermont Route 22A at approximately 50 mph. Baker advised that the

vehicles in front of him were travelling well under the speed limit and that he

proceeded to wait until it was clear to pass. As he was passing, Baker advised

that the vehicle in front of him sideswiped his vehicle as they pulled out in an attempt to pass.

While on scene speaking with Baker, Troopers detected signs of impairment. Baker

was screened and subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported to the

Vergennes Police Department for processing. Baker was released on citation to appear at

the Addison County Superior Court on October 29, 2018, at 1230 hours to answer to the charge of DUI.
