SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On August 8, 2018, at approximately 1234 hours, the Vermont State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on US Route 7 near Plains Road, in the Town of Salisbury. The operator of the vehicle #1 attempted to deflect the investigation of the crash by implicating another as the operator of vehicle #1. Preliminary investigation indicated that the operator had been traveling south on US Route 7, when the front of vehicle #1 struck the  rear of vehicle #2 while in the southbound lane of travel.

Through investigation, Troopers learned that James Whitney (60) of Brandon, VT was the operator of vehicle #1. While speaking with Whitney, Troopers observed an odor of intoxicants, and learned Whitney had been drinking alcohol prior to the collision.  Whitney was charged with DUI and providing false information to an officer to deflect an investigation.

Vermont State Police were assisted by the Salisbury Fire Department and Middlebury Rescue.
