Middlesex/ Vehicle Fire

LOCATION: Interstate 89 northbound, mile marker 52, in Montpelier, Vermont

NATURE: Vehicle Fire

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On 08/05/18 2211 hours, Vermont State Police responded to a report of a Nicom construction vehicle on fire on Interstate 89 northbound at mile marker 52 in the travel lane in Montpelier, Vermont. Investigation revealed a  Nicom crack sealing vehicle, equipped with four 300 lb. propane tank and several chemicals, working in the construction area suffered a mechanical failure in the compressor and caught fire. Chittenden County Sherriff’s Office was providing blue lights for the construction area and closed the northbound lanes as the fire spread. Berlin Police Department assisted in closing the interstate at exit 7, in Berlin. The north bound traffic was rerouted south bound away from the incident. The south bound lanes were closed as the fire intensified and the tanks began to rupture. Berlin, Montpelier, and Middlesex Fire Departments extinguished the fire. The operators were identified as Foreman David True, Christopher Baraw and Michael Post. There were no injuries as a result of the incident. All lanes were reopened as scheduled.
