Contact # 802-878-7111

Date/Time: June 7, 2018 at approximately 2:16 AM

Incident Location: 1329 Old Stage Road, Westford,  VT

Owner of Property: Maryanne E. Mead, age 57

Summary: On June 7, 2018 at 2:16 AM the 911 Emergency Dispatch Center in Essex received a phone call about a fire at 1329 Old Stage Road in the Town of Westford.  Westford and Essex Fire Departments, along with Essex Rescue, responded to the scene.  Upon their arrival at 2:33 AM the first fire fighters on scene discovered a two story home fully engulfed in flames.  There were no occupants inside the home due to a previous electrical fire which occurred on May 25, 2018.  Due to this fire the home did not have any electricity, nor was it inhabitable because of the heavy smoke and soot deposits inside.  The Department of Public Safety Fire Investigation Unit, comprised of fire investigators from the State Police and Division of Fire Safety, were summoned to the scene to request and origin and cause investigation.  The investigation revealed the house had been intentionally set on fire by the home owner, Maryanne E. Mead, on the eve of June 6, 2018.  Mead was held at the correctional center in South Burlington overnight in lieu of $2500 bail.  She is being arraigned in Chittenden Superior Court, Criminal Division, on June 8, 2018 for a felony charge of 1st Degree Arson.  Anyone with further details or information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Todd Ambroz of the Vermont State Police in Williston at 878-7111.
