Summary of Incident: On February 12, 2018 at approximately 6:45 PM a passerby traveling by Rosen and Berger Used Auto Parts noticed smoke coming from one of the buildings. They called 911 and Center Rutland Fire Department was toned to respond. The first arriving personnel observed fire only in the office area of the building. They began and exterior attack and then interior as well. Their efforts prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby occupied residence as well as preventing the spread to other areas of the property.

The Department of Public Safety Fire Investigation Unit, consisting of Fire Investigators from the Vermont State Police and Division of Fire Safety, was requested in order to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Detective Sergeant Otis and Fire Investigator Joshua Maxham responded on February 13, 2018 and met with the Assistant Fire Chief to conduct the investigation. As a result they located numerous electrical issues throughout the building and at the area of origin. They determined the origin to be in the office area and the cause due to an electrical failure. No one was injured as a result of the fire and it is not considered suspicious. Anyone with questions or information may contact Asst. State Fire Marshall Maxham at the email below.
