On 02/28/2017,at approximately 2019 hours, the accused was stopped by the

Vermont State Police, for a speeding violation (93mph in a posted 65mph speed

zone) on Interstate 91 Northbound, near Mile Marker 136, in the town of Lyndon,

VT. After a short roadside investigation, the operator of the vehicle,

Christopher Cantrell (26) was taken into custody and processed for DUI. Cantrell

provided a preliminary sample of his breath roadside, which revealed a Breath

Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) of .181%. Cantrell was given a criminal citation to

appear in Caledonia Criminal Court, on 03/13/2017, to answer a charge of DUI.

The operator was identified as Raymond Baer (age 59) of Pomona, New York. Baer displayed signs of impairment throughout the course of the motor vehicle stop. Baer was taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks, where he was processed for suspicion of DUI Drugs. While at the barracks, Baer was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. Baer agreed to provide an evidentiary sample of his blood.  Baer was later released on citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division at a later time and date.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 02-28-17, at approximately 1627 hours, Vermont State Police and Richmond Fire/Rescue responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 89 south bound near mile marker 70, in the town of Bolton. Investigation revealed that Operator One was traveling southbound when she lost control of her vehicle. Vehicle One subsequently made contact with the rear end of Vehicle Two, causing it to lose control and enter the center median, where it rolled, eventually coming to rest on its roof. Both occupants of Vehicle Two were transported by Richmond Rescue to the University of Vermont Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.  

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 02-27-17, at approximately 1231 hours, Vermont State Police received a report of a single vehicle crash into the side of the US Post Office located in Topsham. Through investigation it was determined that the operator of this vehicle, Daniel R. Lucier, age 28, of Townshend, VT was under the influence of alcohol. Lucier was administered the Standard field sobriety exercises, but refused a preliminary breath test. Lucier was subsequently arrested for DUI, and transported to the Brattleboro Police Department and Vermont State Police Westminster barracks for processing. He was issued a citation to appear in Windham Superior Court Criminal Division on 03/21/17.

SUMMARY OF CRASH: On 02/28/17 at approximately 0950 hours troopers came upon a motor vehicle crash that had just occurred on VT131 in Cavendish just east of Chubb Hill Road.  Investigation revealed that Operator#1 had been traveling east on VT131 when she likely fell asleep.  Instead of negotiating a slight right hand curve, she drove through it.  Vehicle#1 went off the north side of the roadway, struck guard rails on the north side of the roadway, rebounded off of those guard rails, traveled across the roadway, struck the guard rails on the south side of the roadway, rebounded off of those, re-crossed the roadway and struck the guard rails on the north side of the roadway again before coming to final rest on its wheels facing in an easterly direction. Operator#1 was transported to the Springfield Hospital by Ludlow Ambulance, and was treated for minor injuries.  The Cavendish Fire Department assisted at the scene with extrication and traffic control.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On February 28, 2017, at approximately 0740 hrs, Vermont State Police responded to a burglary at the Cuttingsville Post Office located at 5446 VT RT 103. During the course of investigation, Troopers found The Rustic Rooster restaurant located adjacent to the post office had also been burglarized. In speaking with the restaurant’s owner and the postal clerk, it was determined that small monetary valued items had been taken from within both establishments.

 

At approximately 0800 hrs, VSP also responded to John C Stewart & Son Inc. located at 5227 VT RT 103 regarding another burglary. In speaking with employees, it was determined that a customer’s vehicle had been stolen from within the parking lot. The car stolen was a Vermont registered black 2008 four door Ford Focus. The vehicle was described as also having a green 802 sticker and a white golden retriever sticker on the rear windshield.

In January 2017, the Vermont State Police were notified of a Sex Offense complaint that occurred between 2013 and 2015, in the Town of Killington, VT.             

Through the investigation it was learned Young repeatedly exposed himself to a female subject between 2013 and 2015, in the Town of Killington.  Young was issued a Flash Citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court on March 01, 2017.      

The Rutland Unit for Special Investigations (RUSI) is a multi-disciplinary team that investigates, prosecutes, and serves victims of sex crimes and child victims of severe physical abuse throughout Rutland County.

On February 27, 2017, at approximately 0046 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police -Rutland Barracks were contacted by a citizen advising that Jason M. Buffum was in violation of his condition of release, including a 24/7 curfew and conditions not to have contact with certain individuals. Through investigation, Troopers found that Buffum was in violation of two of his conditions of release.

 

Buffum was subsequently taken into custody and lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On February 27, 2017 State Police responded to a report of a dispute at a residence on Hemlock Rd., St. George.   It was determined a firearm was displayed in the

incident.  None of the parties involved were injured.

 

As a result of the investigation, Christopher Newhall was charged with Recklessly Endangering Another Person and 1st Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault.  

 

Newhall was processed at the State Police barracks in Williston and subsequently lodged at Chittenden Regional Correctional Center for lack of $10,000 bail.
