Williston Barracks/ Pro-Active Enforcement

INCIDENT LOCATION: I89 Safety Corridor Winooski


SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On August 11, 2017 between 7:30am and 9:00am VSP Williston Troopers conducted a pro-active motor vehicle enforcement detail on Interstate 89 between exits 13 and 16 within the safety corridor. During the detail, multiple motor vehicle stops were made for speeding, following too closely, and other offenses.


On the same date between approximately 9:45am and 11:45am, Construction work in the area of mile marker 89 southbound which in turn created a 2 mile long traffic backup between the Winooski River Bridge and just north of Exit 16 southbound in Colchester. During this time there were two non-injury motor vehicle collisions that Troopers investigated and there were also two disabled vehicles that had overheated as a result of the traffic backup. The surrounding towns of Colchester, Winooski and Burlington were also heavily effected by the traffic delays.
