UPDATE Incendiary Car Fire Woodbury



UPDATE****

As result of ongoing investigation Storm Thompson   Dob 04-10-92 was charged with Third Degree Arson in connection with the car fire reported on 08-04-17. Thompson was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center in Lieu of $3000.00 Bail. He will appear in Washington County Superior Court in Barre on 08-09-17 at 1230 to answer to the charges. INCIDENT LOCATION: 2537 Dog Pond Road Woodbury, VT

INCIDENT:  Fire of an occupied residence

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  On August 04, 2017 at approximately 2318 hrs the residents at 2537 Dog Pond Road in Woodbury called 911 to report a car fire in their driveway. Upon arrival of the Woodbury Fire Department the rear of a vehicle in the driveway was heavily engulfed in flames. They were able to extinguish the fire before it communicated to the nearby home of the complainant. As a result of Woodbury Fire Chief Cerrutti's on scene investigation he contacted the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit to request an origin and cause investigation for this fire.

 

On the morning of August 05, 2017 at 0900 hrs Detective Sergeant Steven Otis and DFS Investigator/State Fire Marshall Joshua Maxham began an examination of the scene.  The Vermont State Police Arson K9 Accelerant Detection Team was also brought and utilized at the scene.  The cause of this fire is due to direct human involvement.  The classification of this fire is incendiary. This case remains under investigation.

 

Nobody was injured in the fire, but the vehicle, a 2008 Pontiac G6, is considered to be a total loss. Damage was estimated to be approximately $8000.00. 

 

Anyone having any information regarding this fire is urged to contact the Vermont State Police in Westminster at 802-722-4600, Detective Sergeant Steven Otis, or by calling 1-800-322-7766 – The Vermont Arson Tip Award Program (VATAP).  Up to a $5000 reward will be paid for information which helps detect or prevent an arson fire.
