SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On the late evening of 08-21-17, State Police were dispatched to a single vehicle that went off the roadway into the woods. Upon arrival Troopers located Vehicle 1 off the roadway down approximately 50 yards into the woods. Investigation revealed that Operator 1 was traveling downhill on East Road when he fell asleep at the wheel. Operator 1 traveled through the intersection of East Road and US Route 5 and off the side of the roadway where the vehicle came to rest after striking multiple trees. There were no injuries reported, Operator 1 was wearing his seatbelt and all air bags deployed. US Route 5 was down to one lane for a short period of time while the vehicle was removed. It was towed from the scene due to damage.

On August 21, 2017 troopers from the Vermont State Police barracks in Rutland were patrolling the area of US Route 7 in the Town of Rutland as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization taking place between August 18 and September 4, 2017.

 

At approximately 0036 hours, troopers stopped a vehicle for speeding, and crossing over the painted center line, on US Route 7, in Rutland Town. The operator was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile. The operator displayed signs of impairment and was screened for DUI. The operator was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police barracks in Rutland Town. The operator was processed for DUI and later released on a citation to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, on September 11, 2017.

 

The juvenile’s name is being withheld at this time, pending a decision from the State’s Attorney’s Office whether the juvenile will be charged in juvenile or adult court.

On August 21, 2017, at approximately 2235 hours, the Vermont State Police were monitoring traffic on Route 15 in Essex, when they observed a vehicle traveling westbound with a headlight that had malfunctioned. The vehicle was then stopped for a violation of Title 23 VSA 1221.

 

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Tasha Russin. A probable cause search was performed and narcotics were found within the vehicle. The operator did not have a valid prescription for the controlled substance. Russin was then taken into custody for possession of narcotics.

 

Russin was transported to the Williston State Police Barracks for processing. Russin was later released on citation to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court, Criminal Division, for the above listed charge.

On 08/14/17, the State Police received a complaint of a two vehicle crash on Spalding Rd. in the Town of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Shane Hedding, (26) of St. Johnsbury, VT, drove his vehicle to the barracks to make the complaint. Investigation revealed Hedding was being followed by another vehicle operated by Blake Hill, (20) of Lyndonville, VT. Hill then passed in front of Hedding, attempting to block him in. Hedding tried to back up and while doing so, Hill made a U-turn, side swiping Hedding’s vehicle and then drove away. Hill was cited for LSA and is to appear Caledonia Criminal Court on 10/2/17 at 0830 hours.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

The Vermont State Police St Johnsbury Barracks is requesting assistance /

information, with locating three juveniles that walked away from an overnight

camping trip at the "Roaring Brook" Campsite, located in Thetford, Vermont

sometime during the early morning hours of 08/21/2017. All three juveniles are

members of a short term residential program located in Pike New Hampshire, and

were reported to be wearing "similar" clothing, described as neon yellow shirts

(possibly long sleeved), "zip off" hiking pants and crocs. At this time, the destination

of the missing juveniles in unknown.  

 

Anyone with information about this incident, or who may have seen these

individuals is asked to immediately contact the Vermont State Police St

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On 08/21/2017 at approximately 1308 hours, the Vermont State Police was notified of a rollover crash

on Cemetery Road in the Town of Westfield, Vermont. Upon arrival, troopers met with the operator, Aimie

Morse. Investigation revealed vehicle #1 was traveling east on Cemetery Road when the operator was

distracted by the passenger and the vehicle traveled off the traveled portion of the roadway into a ditch

where it then rolled over onto its roof. There were no injuries resulting from the crash and the operator

and passenger were both wearing their seat belts.

Goodnow of Vernon advised that his license was civilly suspended and that he had recently purchased the vehicle.  The registration plate on the vehicle did not match the vehicle and Goodnow's license status was deemed to be criminally suspended as a result of receiving prior Operating After Suspension fines.  Goodnow was arrested and processed at the Westminster Barracks.  Goodnow was released with a Criminal Citation to appear in Superior Court in Brattleboro on October 3, 2017.

SUMMARY OF CRASH:

 

On August 21, 2017, at approximately 0645 hours, the Vermont State Police along with the Shoreham Fire Department and Middlebury Rescue responded to a single vehicle crash into a tree on VT RT 22A in the vicinity of Lapham Bay Road in the Town of Shoreham. Investigation revealed that the operator, Gay, possibly fell asleep while travelling north bound on VT RT 22A, crossed the center line, left the roadway and subsequently struck a tree off the west bound shoulder. The passenger of the vehicle, Carr, sustained critical injuries and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center. Carr is currently in stable condition.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: Vermont State Police, Westminster Barracks in conjunction with local and county law enforcement will be conducting Sobriety & Safety Enforcement during the upcoming 2017 Labor Day Holiday. As of August 14th, 2017, Vermont statewide has experienced 40 fatalities from crashes. The scheduled enforcement is an opportunity to use high visibility enforcement to turn the tide, across the state, in the number of traffic fatalities/crashes. Using state and local data, engaging task forces, and working with other agencies, we can have an impact in Vermont. Recent crash data can be found at http://ghsp.vermont.gov . In addition to checkpoint(s), Troopers will be aggressively patrolling and enforcing motor vehicle laws with specific regard to impaired, distracted/aggressive driving, speeding, and seatbelt usage in high crash areas.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

Vermont State Police, Shaftsbury barracks will be teaming up with local and county law enforcement agencies to conduct sobriety and safety enforcement for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. As of August 14, 2017, statewide Vermont has seen 17 fatalities from motor vehicle crashes. The scheduled program is an opportunity to use high visibility enforcement to reduce the number of crashes/fatalities statewide. Any recent crash data can be found at http://ghsp.vermont.gov . SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On 08/21/2017 at approximately 1001 hours, a member of the Vermont State Police was on patrol on Route 30 in the Town of Townshend. While on patrol, the Trooper observed a vehicle operated by Bills pass his stationary location. Based on prior law enforcement encounters, the Trooper knew that Bills license was under suspension. A check of Vermont DMV records confirmed that Bills was under Criminal Suspension. The Trooper conducted a stop of the vehicle and took Bills into custody for Driving While License Suspended Criminal. Bills was transported to the Windham County Sheriff’s office for processing, cited and released.
