7/18 UPDATE – Middlesex Homicide Investigation

 

Detectives with the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit continue their investigation into the 7/12 homicide of Cindy Cook and are asking for the public’s help.  If you recently frequented or went camping at the Shady Rill picnic area located on Shady Rill road near the Wrightsville Reservoir off Vermont Route 12 in Middlesex between approximately Monday, July 3rd to Thursday, July 6th, investigators would like to speak to you.  Please call 802-229-9191 to reach VSP Major Crime Unit investigators.

 

Detectives also continue to search for Randal Gebo, 61 of Barre City, in connection with this investigation.  See below for more information.  No further information is available at this time.

7/17 UPDATE - Waterbury VT - Detectives continue to investigate the 7/12 homicide of Cindy Cook and are working with authorities in several different states concerning the whereabouts of Randal Gebo.  Gebo is wanted for aggravated vehicle operation without owner consent and fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a credit card issued to another.  Investigation has revealed that he was in the area of Perry, Oklahoma on 07-15-17 and Buffalo, Wyoming on 07-16-17.  Investigation into the Cindy Cook homicide in Vermont continues in conjunction with the effort to locate Gebo on these charges.  No further information is available at this time.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

Vermont State Police continue their investigation into the homicide of Cindy Cook, who was found deceased on July 12, 2017 on Brook Road in the Town of Middlesex. Detectives have been looking into the disappearance of Cook's creme colored 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman (likeness image attached – not actual vehicle) bearing Vermont registration GBH823.

 

Detectives have determined Randal Gebo, boyfriend of Cindy Cook, is in possession of and operating the Mini Cooper. Detectives also determined that Gebo has left the State of Vermont with the vehicle and was most recently believed to be in West Prescott, Arkansas yesterday afternoon where he used Cindy Cook’s debit card at a bank to withdraw cash. 

 

Late last night, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Randal Gebo. The warrant is for aggravated vehicle operation without owner consent and fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a credit card issued to another.   

 

VT State Police wish to thank the public for numerous tips and leads concerning possible sightings of the Mini Cooper over the last few days.  

 

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Randal Gebo or the 2009 Mini Cooper is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Middlesex barracks at 802-229-9191. The attached photo is a recent picture of Randal Gebo.

7/13/2017 UPDATE:

 

Vermont State Police detectives continue to investigate the suspicious death of a female who was discovered in a wooded area down an embankment off the Brook Road in Middlesex yesterday evening.  An autopsy was conducted this morning at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington.  Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the manner of death is homicide and cause of death is pending at this time. 

 

Detectives have been able to positively identify the deceased through preliminary investigation in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  The deceased is identified as Cindy Cook, age 59 of Barre, VT.  Next of kin have been notified.

 

This homicide investigation is being led by the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit along with detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office and with assistance from local law enforcement, specifically the Barre City Police Department.  Preliminary investigation indicates the last know contact with the victim was on July 3rd when a family member spoke with her by phone.  Anyone who had contact with Cindy Cook on or after July 3rd is asked to please contact State Police detectives.  Investigation has further revealed that Cindy Cook’s vehicle is unaccounted for.  The vehicle is described as a 2009 MINI Cooper Clubman station wagon, cream colored, with a black top and black stripes on the hood, bearing VT registration GBH823.

July, 13th, 2017, Middlesex, VT -  On Wednesday evening 07/12/17, at approximately 6:00 pm Vermont State Police received a call from a resident of Brook Road in the town of Middlesex, Washington County.  The resident reported the discovery of a body located down an embankment off the east side of Brook Road.  Vermont State Troopers from the Middlesex barracks responded to the scene and confirmed a deceased adult female located down an embankment off of Brook Road in a secluded area. 

 

Vermont State Police Detectives with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Major Crime Unit responded to investigate.  The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team was activated and responded to process the scene.  This investigation is in its early stages and this death is considered suspicious.  Detectives are working to identify the deceased female and determine the circumstances surrounding her death. 

 

State Police detectives are working closely with the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.   The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington early this morning for autopsy; in order to determine cause and manner of death.
