SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On July 28, 2017, at approximately 1310 hours E911 was contacted regarding a young child that was trapped in a tractor that rolled. AmCare Rescue the Vermont State Police and Fairfield Fire responded to the scene, which was a farm field.

The initial investigation revealed that an adult male was operating a farm tractor with a seven (7) year old as a passenger in the cab of the tractor. The farm tractor was pulling a manure tanker at the time of the incident. The investigation at this juncture indicates that the tanker rolled due to the steep terrain being navigated at the time of the incident, thus causing the tractor, which was attached to the tanker, to overturn. The adult male was trapped but could get free, despite an initial attempt to free the child from where they were trapped, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult male was transported to the Northwestern Medical Center by AmCare Rescue. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

There were members of the community and businesses involved with heavy/large equipment that assisted to facilitate the respectful extrication of the deceased child from the tractor. Those members of the community lent their equipment, the Town of Fairfield used their heavy equipment, A.C. Vaillancourt's provided heavy wrecker service, as well as TDI Repair & Towing.

The name of the deceased child and the adult male are not being disclosed at this time due to notification of next-of-kin.
