SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 07/12/2017 at approximately 1750 hours the Vermont State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 Southbound at the Exit 18 Southbound On-Ramp.  The subsequent investigation yielded that the operator of Vehicle #1, 19 year-old Riley Morrissey of Jericho, VT, was using a handheld electronic device while operating.  This caused her to be distracted as she merged onto the Interstate in front of a passing tractor trailer unit.  The operator of Vehicle #2, 26 year-old Alexandro Astellanos-Figueora, was unable to avoid the collision as the right front of his vehicle struck the left rear of the at-fault vehicle.  Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

Morrissey was ultimately issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint pursuant to the hands-free violation.
