On July 21st 2017 at approximately 2322 hours, VSP Shaftsbury Troopers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle possibly crashed or abandoned in Pownal. While en route, it was learned that the vehicle was reported as being stolen in Massachusetts. No one was present with the vehicle, however after a short search, two male occupants were located and Gerald H. Richardson was identified as being the operator of the vehicle. The vehicle was confirmed as having been stolen from Adams, MA.

Investigation revealed that Richardson had struck a telephone pole with the vehicle earlier in the evening and then knowingly left the scene.
