1)      Eluding a Police Officer (Title 23 VSA 1133)

2)      Excessive Speed (Title 23 VSA 1097)

3)      Gross Negligent Operation (Title 23 VSA 1091(b))

 

ACCUSED: Austin Sousis

AGE: 19

CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: Pownal, Vermont

 

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On July 8, 2017, at approximately 0125 hours, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Shaftsbury Barracks attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop for a violation on US Route 7 in the Town of Pownal. Troopers tried to stop the vehicle but the vehicle failed to obey and led Troopers on a high speed pursuit. During the pursuit, the vehicle was seen driving in a reckless manner several times. While attempting to elude, the vehicle traveled off the traveled portion of the roadway and subsequently struck a tree. The operator, identified as Austin Sousis (Age 19), was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for further medical evaluation. Conditions of release were set on Sousis by the Honorable Judge David Howard to appear in court on July 10, 2017 at 1230 hours. Assistance was provided on scene by the Pownal Valley Fire Department and the Pownal Rescue Squad.
