SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 07/01/17 at approximately 0051 hours, Vermont State Police were dispatched to East Road, just north of the Buck Hill Road intersection for a single vehicle rollover crash with entrapment. Troopers and other first responders arrived and found the operator of the vehicle, Eric Peterson, still inside the vehicle. Troopers began investigating the circumstances of the crash. During the course of investigation, several indications suggested that Peterson was under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Peterson was transported to the Southwest Vermont Medical Center for treatment, where the DUI investigation also continued.

The crash involved Peterson's vehicle striking a telephone pole, shearing it just above the ground.

Charges of Negligent Operation and DUI are pending against Peterson, who was unable to be served a citation to appear in court due to his physical state at the time of investigation.

The Shaftsbury Fire Department was on scene and assisted as well as the Bennington Rescue Squad.
