SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On 07/08/17 at approximately 0024 hours, Vermont State

Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 1997 Ford Ranger being operated by

Donald Ely-Gardner for a traffic violation. During the stop, Trooper Justin

Walker suspected Ely-Gardner to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor

and began investigating further.

 

Trooper Walker requested Ely-Gardner perform Field Sobriety Exercises, during

which Ely-Gardner showed several clues of impairment. Ely-Gardner was taken into

custody for DUI following the Field Sobriety Exercises and transported to the

Vermont State Police Barracks in Shaftsbury. Shortly after arriving at the

barracks and before evidentiary testing could be started, Ely-Gardner

experienced a medical event, which resulted in him being transported to the

Southwest Vermont Medical Center by Rescue Squad. While at the hospital, a

search warrant was applied for and granted to retrieve a sample of Ely-Gardner's

blood for evidentiary testing.

 

A court date will be issued upon the return of the results of that test.
