On July 15th, 2017, at approximately 0401 hours, Troopers with the Vermont State Police –Rutland Barracks responded to a report of a suspicious female at Green Mountain College, in Poultney, VT. Campus Security reported they had a female detained in their office and suspected she committed a burglary on campus. Upon arrival, Troopers spoke with campus security, as well as the female, who initially provided a false name to Troopers. Through investigation, the female was identified as Hilary I. Dernier, 29, of Mendon, VT. Further investigation revealed Dernier, whose privilege to operate a motor vehicle was suspended criminally, had driven to the college campus. After being observed by campus security acting suspiciously in the area of a campus building that had been burglarized earlier in the week, she was stopped and questioned. Campus security officers found Dernier was in possession of a tool which they suspected was used to gain entrance to the campus building. as well as items reported stolen by Green Mountain College. Dernier taken into custody by Troopers and transported to the Vermont State Police Barracks in Rutland Town for processing. Dernier was then lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility for lack of bail. She is scheduled to appear at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division on July 17, 2017 at 1230 hours.
