SUMMARY OF INCIDENT: On July 6, 2017 at approximately 2158 hours, the State Police responded to an aggravated assault that took place in Weybridge, Vermont.  While responding to the scene officers from the Middlebury Police Department arrived first and took the suspects, who were later identified as Travis J. Simpson(21) of Vergennes and Hieu Tran(25) of Burlington into custody.

Simpson and Tran pulled into a driveway of a residence on Weybridge Road (VT RT 23) in Weybridge.  The victims approached Tran and Simpson’s vehicle on foot and told them they needed to leave.  The victims advised that they did not know who Tran and Simpson were.  As the victims were returning to their own vehicle, Simpson and Tran approached the victims and pepper sprayed them.  After being sprayed by pepper spray, one of the victims retrieved a handgun from their vehicle and discharged several rounds.  There were no injuries to Tran or Simpson as a result of the rounds being discharged.

Simpson was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.  Tran was arrested and charged with Aiding in the Commission of a Felony, Driving on a Criminally Suspended License and Violating his Condition of Release.

Both Tran and Simpson were lodged at Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $25,000 bail.
