SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  Case Number : 17A403408

Location: 468 Upper Plan Road

Bradford, VT

The Bradford Fire Dept. responded to the above address for a building explosion at approx. 1835 hrs.  On arrival they found the single family / 2 story house which had an event resulting in an explosion and the partial collapse of the building. There was minimal fire on arrival. The fire department was able to secure and shut down all utilities including gas and electricity.

During the initial assessment of the building the occupant(s) were not able to be located and unsure if they were still located inside the building. On scene personnel were able to locate them safely out of state.

The Bradford Fire Chief requested a origin and cause investigation.

The Vermont State Police / Division of Fire Safety  Fire Investigation Unit conducted an origin and cause investigation of the house explosion that occurred at the above address.

Due to the unstable conditions of the structure a 10 member team from the  Vermont State Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) was also deployed. They provided  technical assistance in shoring up portions of the building, engineering, and technical assistance for the investigation team.

At this time in the investigation, it is believed that this explosion was caused by some kind of a gas leak from within the building. The house is considered a total loss.  There are no suspicious circumstances at this time and the cause appears accidental.  The investigation however still remains open and active.  Anyone with any further information regarding this incident should contact DFS Investigator Tim Angell.
