SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  On June 6, 2017 at approximately 11:00 AM a 911 caller reported a fire at 9 Johnson Lane in MT. Holly.  Initial reports and witnesses placed the fire on the second floor of the building.  Upon arrival of the MT. Holly Fire Department and surrounding fire departments, the building was heavily engulfed in flames on part of the 2nd floor.  Once the fire was contained the MT. Holly Fire Chief contacted the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit to request an origin and cause investigation.  On the afternoon of June 6, 2017 Detective Sr./Sergeant Thomas Williams and Det./Sgt. Steve Otis, and DFS Investigator Josh Maxham began an examination of the scene.  The Vermont State Police Arson K9 detection team was also brought to the scene.  It was determined that the structure was broken into prior to the fire.  The cause of this fire was due to direct human intervention in setting ordinary materials on fire within the structure.  The classification of this fire is arson.

Nobody was injured in the fire, but the building is considered to have considerable damage.  Damage was estimated to be approximately $80,000.
