SUMMARY OF CRASH:

On 6.14.17 at 1544 hours VSP responded to a 2 vehicle crash on Route 78 and Airport Road in Highgate. US Border Patrol, Highgate Fire Department, AmCare, and Vtrans were on scene.

Investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was traveling east on Route 78 and attempted to turn into Airport Road. Operator 1 realized that Vtrans Worker was working on painting the roadway. They attempted to avoid the worker at the same time Operator 2 was traveling westbound on Route 78. Operator 2 locked up his brakes in an effort to avoid the crash, but was unable to avoid it. The VTrans worker ran to safety and avoided injury.

The initial investigation concluded that the cause of the crash was Operator 1 not yielding to oncoming traffic. The crash is still under investigation.
