SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 

On 10-17-2017 at approximately 0157 hours the Vermont State Police investigated an abandoned vehicle that was left on the shoulder of VT RTE 7a in the Town of Shaftsbury. The investigation revealed the vehicle had struck a nearby residence and then the operator left the scene without reporting it. After a lengthy investigation, the operator was identified as Allen L. Spaulding (32) of Bennington, VT. Investigation revealed Spaulding also made a fraudulent insurance claim in relation to the crash. Spaulding was processed for Gross Negligent Operation, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, False Information to a Police Officer and Insurance Fraud and later released on a criminal citation to appear in Bennington Superior Court-Criminal Division on 08-14-2017 at 0815 to answer to the above stated charges.
