SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On June 02, 2017 at approximately 1333 hours E911 was contacted regarding the victim who went unresponsive while in the water. The Grand Isle Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene as well as Alburgh Rescue.

At this stage in the investigation information indicates the victim was attempting to locate moorings to attach buoys to. He was being observed by others on the shore. While he was wearing diving equipment at the time that he went unresponsive, he wasn’t completely immersed in the water when he went unresponsive.

When he was observed by witnesses to be unresponsive one witness swam to the victim and got the victim to shore where the witness started CPR until he was relieved by first responders.

Alburgh Rescue transported the victim to the Northwestern Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The Vermont State Police will continue the investigation with Grand Isle Sheriff’s Department involvement, in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s office as an autopsy will be conducted.
